Views on a new Sea Dweller
Discussion
I'm waiting on one as I have a SD4K which I chose over the Deepsea due to size. I'm still undecided whether I will keep it long term when it arrives. A close friend has one, so have tried it on ... doesn't feel a whole lot larger than the standard size, so if you have large wrists, you'll certainly be fine.
These are not selling for a great deal over list as you say ... £10.5k or £11k is only £1k - £1.5k over list at the moment.
In terms of waiting ... the age old question But as they don't seem super popular, maybe a 18 months - 2 years? (like everyone else, I have no idea how AD's operate these 'lists'!)

I've been on the list since Basel release at my AD. I know he is honourable with his list as he will update me what position I am and I have had many hard to get references, that are more in demand than the SD43, since I have asked to go down on the list for the SD43.
As to lead times, it's luck of the draw, some get them in days and weeks. Some like me, am still waiting since 2017.....

I've had one since the mk1 dial and it's my daily beater. Lovely bit of kit and stands up to daily wear extremely well, even if I chuck a G-shock on these days if I'm on the tools.
It followed a 16600 Sea Dweller and if I'm honest it took a lot of getting used to. Not the size so much more that it was a bit flash whereas the old watch was just tool. The 16600 looked like something Quint of Jaws would wear, the SD43... like something Gordon Gecko would wear maybe.
It's grown on me, I do love it as it's a special watch in the collection but i"m under no illusions-it' an item of jewellery. I won't lie, I wish I hadn't sold my 16600.
I've recently bought a Kermit (mk3 dial) and it just feels like I like the older watches better to be honest.
I've had most modern ceramic Rolex over the last few years, I do love the SD43 (it's still here anyways!) but I probably like it most as part of my Rolex Anniversary Collection. Plus it's "my" watch and a keeper.

i am looking at buying one of these too, they look much better than a sub in my opinion, the online traders are offering to buy them at retail price at the moment and then reselling for around 11k. i wonder if the price will go below list. i guess it depends on whether more are released by Rolex or whether they end production of it after Baselworld.

There's no chance of it being discontinued yet! If the Sub gets it's overdue (IMHO) remodel this year and bins off the ridiculous maxi-case I don't think there'll be as much between them.I'll always love the Sea Dweller for it's extra professionalism in the field but with the cyclops the two watches will be ever closer. The Sea Dweller runs the risk of just being a chunkier Sub.
Yes I know the extra specs but we've seen the 126600 gain width, depth, weight and gain no extra performance. It feels, dare I say it-a bit of a fraud. My old 16600 did everything as well without the chintz.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great watch and I'm maybe a bit down on it recently after getting the Kermit but I almost had more respect for my 126660 James Cameron-at least it pushed the boundaries. By the way OP, don't rule out one of them-they're selling cheap at the moment (two in the last week on TZ-UK were a straight £11k) and really suit a bigger bloke (Flintoff wears one on Top Gear) and even looked fine on me.
I like them and they wear extremely well- my wrists 6.75" and it fits great with the nicely proportioned bracelet once the dive extensions removed. My understanding is the deep sea has a slimmer bracelet and can feel top heavy.
The sea dwellers matt dial and 50th anniversary red writing really makes it special and I think its under appreciated right now- I'll sell mine and then they'll get discontinued at Basel world and shoot up no doubt!

Would the waiting list really be that long for one of these? I think they get a bit over exaggerated for the normal stuff sometimes (Daytona aside).
I put my name down for a ceramic sub at Bucharest in London in December 2017 and had one in three weeks, having bought nothing from them previously.

I'm not too worried about the weight of the watch, one of my current collection weighs 278 grams.
Steve
Sometimes it comes down to more than numbers, I used to regularly and happily wear a 48mm quite heavy watch, I thought a Deepsea would easily be fine but I ended up selling it because I could never get it comfortable, it comes down to distance lug to lug (not width but across the watch) height of the case that will let it fall / move on your wrist etc, some watches just don’t sit right on different wrists, I had a Bremont ALT 1C, same thing!Steve
