Has anyone else noticed how often the car in front, which has just done something daft, has a dash cam fitted?

Yes - not very often, ie usually it doesn't have a dash cam.
In 200k miles of driving I have encountered 1 DC wker who was actively trying to cause conflict ("Cam-ruh!") and 2 police wannabe walt-wkers with DCs who were driving badly but weren't actively trying to cause conflict.
I've seen a lot of non-DC wkers though.

From purely watching dash cam footage on youtube on so many occasions the dash cam car is desperate to prove a point. You can see whats about to happen a mile off yet the dash cam driver fails to react until a metre away then has hold the horn for 5 minutes and refusing to move as if in utter shock laugh

These are so frustrating to watch. The people who create the "bad driver dash cam compilation" videos ought to better vet which clips get published and which don't - it often seems the same dashcammer features several times in one compilation, often with their own driving exacerbating the situations they find themselves in. Of course, all get sent to YouTube for inclusion in the next weekly upload... If the camera had their clip denied with a short response along the lines of:-

"Thank you for your clip. Unfortunately, the standard of driving from the camera vehicle falls below standard, as such the clip will not be included in our next compilation."

..then perhaps the regular cammers would stop accelerating into hazards and causing mountains out of molehills.

Yep. Watched the car in front go straight through a red light last week. Was thinking ‘bet you don’t post that on youtube!’

Yes. Even worse if they have a ‘dashcam fitted’ sticker or similar.

Of course there is the very small % of users who use a dashcam to simply gather "footage" for their stupid online gallery of "close calls".

Shame really as it gives a bad name for those of us who simply have a dashcam for insurance or funny purposes.

Yes. I've always assumed that a lot of people have them fitted as they often find themselves in situations of conflict due to their own poor driving but simply don't know it.

Seen plenty of 'L' plate bikers with helmet cams. Seems a silly thing to do as they have near zero experience and make to many stupid mistakes.

It's confirmation bias. Same reason BMW drivers never seem to use their indicators. smile

I'm sure I read dash cams typically improve driving as the person is then aware they are being 'watched'.

Amazes me how many I see with the dash cam screen fully lit up at night,
got to be distracting, but does give a kind of a homing beacon of cars to extra cautious of

The trick is to not watch the ones centered around UK driving. The ones from America and - better still - Russia, are far more entertaining.

I'll have to keep a closer eye out - I can't say I've notice cars on the move with dashcams fitted.
