After a post in another thread about the aircraft numbers at Nellis I thought I'd have a look.

On the current google Earth image of Nellis I can make out
loads of F-16's
This includes the Thunderbirds display team
A bunch of Tornado's
A bunch of Typhoons
a Bunch of F-15's
and an F-22

Anyone else want to have a dig at other active airbases and see what you can see?

And some A-10s, B-1Bs, L-39s, A-4s, F-15s, a C-130 and sundry helicopters.

I'd never really appreciated how Nellis is in the Vegas 'burbs. I'd assumed it was out in the desert somewhere. (I realise that 'out in the desert somewhere' could apply to the whole of Las Vegas but you know what I mean...)

You can see U2 and B2’s on various images of Fairford. The BBMF Lancaster is also over Huntingdon if you look closely

The Lanc was there 14 years ago, but Google Earth has been updated since then. Perhaps winding back the timeline on a desktop version would show it?

I could spend a few days walking around this lot, and the others out of screenshot.

Where is that ?

Top centre looks like a Lancer next to a B52.

But on closer inspection maybe a TU160 next to a 'Bear' and lower down and to the right some Concordski's?

There's a Buran in there too (bottom left just next to the white hangar)

Odd vineyard crop. Also a world-class collection of Abarth racing cars here.

Thought of this one as soon as I spotted the thread!

Really interesting to see what appears to be the wreckage of the only Sukhoi Su-37 made alongside the only Su-47 ever made.

Scrolling up from Memphis International airport to see the Fedex base.
NAS Oceana near where the carriers live.
Barksdale Air Base.
Anderson Air Base on Guam.
McChord and Charleston because I like C17s
Hickham Field on Hawaii, some B2 and F22s there.
Kadena on Okinawa
Miramar near San Diego

Bias here, the mining operations in the Pilbara. Try and find Dump trucks at some of the mines. Find the rail loops at most of them, pick up a train, follow them to the ports and check out the ships. Look on Marinetraffic and see all the ships waiting to be fed Iron Ore. Nearly every mine has its own airport that can take B738, A320 or F100s. Zoinked us about 6 weeks ago...here you go, have another airport.
Here are a few mines to look at Newman, West Angelas, Mining Area C.

Good call on a J-20 looking design as that gave me a starting point but there's too many differences between the image aircraft and a J-20 (wing shape, size, intake shape, nose length) plus the question of what is a 5th Gen Chinese A/C doing in a Russian Scrap yard etc that instead I'm going with the original design that China stole from the Russians as a starting point for the J-20 - I think it's the Mikoyan Project 1.44 - but I would never have got there without the J-20 starting point!
