what 'unknown'/cult series do you like
Discussion
We all know of The Wire', 'G.O.T.', 'Breaking Bad' etc. What series out there in TV land didn't break through into the mainstream consciousness in the same way?
For me there are 2 that immediately spring to mind:
Banshee (although it seems very popular on PH) never seemed to be as popular as it deserved(?)
Into The Badlands - probably suffered from being part martial arts, part dystopian adult world (Hunger Games seemed to show the taste for teen dystopian stuff)

I liked No Heroics, a British comedy about a group of B list super heroes. Sadly only 1 series.
mongrels deserves a far wider audience, a puppetry comedy about an urban fox and his mates.
Not sure how well The Tick did, another superhero comedy with Peter Serafinowicz.
Pushing Daisies was quite funny.
Castle, Chuck and Lucifer were all big US series but not sure how well they're known in the UK.
And Firefly of course, it's pretty well known but a great series. That and Dollhouse are both vastly superior to Joss Wheedon's more well known series.

The Kettering Incident is one of the best things I've ever watched, it had me gripped right until the end. It's properly unnerving.
A synopsis: Anna Macy left Kettering when she was just fourteen, shortly after her best friend (and paternal half-sister), Gillian Baxter, mysteriously disappeared. The two girls had been cycling through the forbidden forests outside Kettering when they saw strange lights in the sky. Eight hours later, Anna was found alone, terrified and covered in blood.

Gomorrah for me. I think the fact that it's subtitled puts a lot of people off but it is some of the finest TV I've ever seen.
It's so grim, grimy and brutal that I sometimes wonder where the actual 'entertainment' is but I'm hooked on it. The characters, the visuals, the music are all just spot on. And it's the perfect antidote to any criminal drama or film that tries to paint organised crime as in any way glamorous or aspirational.
To a lesser extent, I'd say The Trip as well. I know a few other people who've watched it but not that many and I absolutely love it, particularly the series in Italy. I really like the contrast of the brash, show-offish bits where Coogan and Brydon are trying to out-impersonate each other with the much quieter, more contemplative scenes. Perhaps it resonates more with me as a man entering middle age (although I'm not quite as old as the protagonists) but something about the slightly melancholic tone really strikes a chord.

'Lizzie's Pictures' https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/607bbb21a5594170b9db07...
'Mulberry' https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/4430c5f750b74ddba7fa4e...
Both of these are lodged in my memory as being worth another viewing though I've never watched them since they were originally transmitted.

I guess it is difficult to know how big or popular a Series is or isn't. Just because I know or don't know about it, has no real bearing on it's popularity.
That said, I'm guessing these may be less well known.
Legend of the Seeker
The Shannara Chronicals
October Faction
The Letter for the King
Cloak & Dagger
Sleepy Hallow
Constantine
Defiance

I'd absolutely agree, and with the same thoughts as you - not sure why, but I was addicted. You might also like Suburra, which is equally grimy (and happens to be mostly true)It's so grim, grimy and brutal that I sometimes wonder where the actual 'entertainment' is but I'm hooked on it. Succession - on Amazon or Netflix, can’t remember which, but superb stuff with great performances from Brian Cox (no, not that one...)
Just started watching Money Heist on Netflix, in Spanish with subtitles but very clever and intriguing so far.
I thought money heist was really well done. We cheated and put the dubbing on!Just started watching Money Heist on Netflix, in Spanish with subtitles but very clever and intriguing so far.
Another vote for Gomorrah. It's in my top 10 TV shows of all time. Absolutely brutal, gripping, tense and really well put together.
Strangely enough I finished The Wire last night after a 5 season binge. I could never get into it at the time but everyone kept saying it's one of the very best shows so I thought I should give it another chance. A pretty good show but not in the same league as Sopranos and Breaking Bad. A decent watch once you get past the awful American accents on the English actors and the fact you have to accept you're not going to pick up on a quarter of what the local street gangs are saying with their slang and odd accents.
Anyway, back on topic and back in time. A comedy sketch show called Absolutely which ran from '89 to '93. It was superb but very few people I mention it to who have ever heard of it. Mainly Scottish cast and some great characters and sketches.
