I have to say, I’m very surprised that Qantas operated this flight, I can only assume there are a lot more bums on seats on the return leg.
Sorry about the spider scrawl, original post shows crew names, which I’m not sure should published.

It's a bit of a dream of mine to end up on a flight like that. I wonder what happens if you're in economy, do they insist you stay there, or do they let you do the sensible thing and have a flatbed upfront?

I remember reading the Heathrow airport newspaper Skyport many years ago (pre-9/11) and a passenger found himself the only passenger in a BA 747 (remember them?). He was in first, apart from the landing when he was in a jumpseat.

I assume the 12t of freight may be an issue. If Qantas cancel the flight they'd still have to get that to London on time which may cost more by subcontracting it, if even feasible.

I was once on a Jet2 flight from LBA to AMS with just ten other pax, but that's in a whole different league!

Could be, I know Perth exports a lot of seafood, obviously perishable.

In the late 1970s I was one of 4 passengers on a SAS Convair 880 from London to Stockholm. The cabin crew moved us into First Class.
Could have been a 990.

Our next door neighbour is BA cabin crew.

Heathrow to Kuala Lumpa at the weekend. 29 passengers.

Flight from Miami to Kingston Jamaica diverted to Mo’ Bay because of landing light failure at destination - if you’ve been to Norman Manley you’ll understand why that’s a problem. The flight crew then announced they were repositioning to MKJP and passengers could continue with them or stop over in a hotel. I recall that only 3 of us did that leg

My sister flew back from Dubai at the weekend. She was in Business class and her friend was in Economy. Even though the plane was nearly empty (only 2 passengers in Business and 3 empty rows between each passenger in economy) they still wouldn’t let my sister’s friend come and join her in Business.

It was about 20yrs now, but me and a girlfriend got on a near deserted BA flight going skiing to Val-d'Isère. It had rows of empty leather seats so I laid full length across one and went to sleep. They had to wake me up on landing, best flight i'd ever been on!

There is also the issue of trying to keep aircrew current.

I went on a similar flight when my flight was cancelled with short noticed and we were rebooked automatically for.... a London airport (when the original flight was from Manchester)

After being unable to contact the airline we took the train and got our flight. Was nobody at all in sight from our seats, cant have been many on that flight. Was awesome and very peaceful.

Probably a repatriation flight as Qantas cancelled international flights a few months back. The government have chartered flights, maybe the 3 passengers are government related, ie nurses, consular officials etc. Not sure if it will return to Perth or Darwin. Find out tomorrow I guess.

I’ve been on a very very quiet flight LHR-DFW (Dallas) and the cabin crew told me that the cargo hold was full and we were close to max operating MTOW. No one got bumped up further forwards but all the space to yourself and ultra fast service was totally fine.

I flew out to Hanoi via Doha last Friday with Qatar air, on the LHR > Doha leg all passengers had a whole row of seats each and many rows were empty, there were 6 in business class.

Completely chocker full on the Doha > Hanoi leg, possibly due to only one flight per week.

2 years ago on the BA Heathrow-Luanda flight I used to regularly be outnumbered by the attending staff on a 777.

Made for a very relaxing flight, the attendants always really friendly as they had so little to do. You had your food and picked 3 seats to lay out on to sleep the rest of the overnight flight.

I asked about the viability of the flight amd they explained there was a lot of air cargo on board which helps offset lack of passengers.
