2020 iPad Air v 2020 iPad Pro.

Time to replace my 5 year old iPad but which one to get? It’s really just for films and TV, and internet browsing.

Keep flipping between and reviews I’ve looked at don’t help me pick. Will be the 256 whichever one I go for but any suggestions or advice appreciated. Thanks.

Last year I chose iPad Air over the iPad Pro.

It had the previous year's pro chip, and I think it's the same one this generation.

No regrets. Perfect for work emails, browsing web, streaming films etc very responsive. Has the pencil which is quite useful.

For your usage the pro seems overkill.

Do you want the 120hz screen ? Just sat here watching films in hdr on my 2017 pro and they do look superb do the non pro iPads support hdr ? Worth checking if you watch a lot of films.

I just bought both, and returned the Air.

Both are great.

But Pro faster for gaming, has more RAM (more open apps), 120hz screen nicer especially to write on, quad speakers.

Pro better multi-core and graphics (games).

Air has newer CPU that will be quicker in single core apps. But power matters much less with those. Also newer CPU uses less power. Air is cheaper.

I’ll probably get the Air (or wait for a mini 2021)...

But there are two things that bug me about the Air:

Speaker position: top & bottom, so weird sound in portrait mode

No face ID: once used, i cant imagine going back to the finger reader even if it is built into the bottom on top.
