This appeared on Facebook today, I had to look twice..

Looks a bit 'shopped' to me, no exhaust/heat haze at the rear of each aircraft nor is there any disturbance of the water below the lowest aircraft.

It's not that low to disturb the water, that's not a shadow under it, it's an island.

No - the RAF frequently designates a pair of aircraft ( prime and a spare ) for a year of display work and give them a special paint job - they've done it for Tornadoes and Hawks in the past

Useless question time... how much difference could a squadron of those made against the invasion?

I've no idea how you'd draw up parameters for a comparison, but if we're going with the fantasy "a fully armed and fuelled squadron of A10s gets transported through time to Normandy" scenario? They have firepower that has to be seen to be believed. Utterly devastating, proper jaw on the floor time.

If they'd have been available back then, and all other technology remained as it was, then you've got to deploy them further inland against the German Panzer divisions being moved into Normandy to reinforce units already there. The reserve would not have made it to the battlefield with any equipment worth a damn, and I doubt that the Luftwaffe or the Wehrmacht had anything capable of really threatening an A10.

Imagine what something like that could have done against the bomber streams during the Battle Of Britain and the Blitz too! yikes

Truth be told I was thinking of ze Chermans having them - the allies made enough of a mess of the panzer divisions (cf Falaise pocket) with then current tech. I'd imagine a squadron of those would have substantially shortened the war against Germany, possibly even altered the Soviet's viewpoint.

In unrelated news, I recently saw a Black Hawk doing a hot extraction practice up close (with in a few hundred meters) Blank rounds, but o my o my was that exciting to see up close!
