Looking for a boat

Hi all
As foreign holidays look to be possibly problematic for the foreseeable future man maths has prevailed
Started the search with £100,000 max budget
Told sleep Mr and mrs, sleep 2 kids, decent galley, lol and enough space to spend up two weeks on it.
A month of looking at old potentially ruinous 20 year old dogs we now have doubled the budget.
Have looked at swift trawler 42, grand banks 43 etc.

Does anyone want to sell off market. Ideally like post 2006 Volvo diesels. Don't want a beaten up under maintained relic.

Any ideas links gratefully received

As I am sure you have seen, there is very very little stock of decent used boats in the UK at the moment and you will be paying a premium to get a boat for this summer.

As brokers, we cannot get enough boats here. I'm happy to do a proper search for you tomorrow and give you some options, if so please pm me and we can make contact.

Consider a Merry Fisher 1095. We turned our noses up at the brand at first, but with three bedrooms, separate shower, lots of room and new for under 200k they are very good value and tick a lot of boxes for family boating such as space - lots of it - and safety. Try Morgan Marine, Essex (I have no connection with them but believe they have stock.)

I would look at https://www.nya.co.uk/ for starters - whilst Broads-based they deal with some fairly big stuff which would work offshore. At the least it might give him some more ideas.

Yes the OP doubled it himself. After following the recent excitement of HMS Balfour, I think that means it’s the bounden duty of all PH boaters to further double it. I shall once again watch with great interest and jealousy

We can't have OPs trying to outwit us by doubling their budget before we've had the chance. £400K I say, and not a penny less!

I would love to help, but as has already been said on here, stock in the UK is pretty scarce now and thanks to BREXIT, the UK market has all but annexed itself from the rest of the civilised world.

On that subject, if you happen to see a suitable boat on the other side of the Channel (or in the Med') sporting a red ensign, it might be worth investigating whether it is actually UK-owned and whether it originally left UK waters. If the answer to those questions is a yes, there is the chance that you could structure a deal where the boat is trucked back to the UK and the sale closed upon arrival back in the UK (thereby preserving the original UK VAT-paid status). This may sound a little convoluted, but if it opens up your options, it is worth considering.

As to what to choose... A Swift Trawler is a pretty safe option. The Grand Banks is of much higher build quality, but for the same price, you will be looking much older and 'old old' Grand Banks can be a nightmare.

We took delivery of a new boat just before Christmas. It was about 4.5 times our original budget.

We couldn't find a decent used one, so bought new.

I guess the premium you pay for a boat now with everyone thinking the same as the OP isn't too much of an issue if you don't mind been in rather lot of negative equity when things get back to normal?

I was looking for a boat around the £30k mark before all this kicked off and would have got me something fairly reasonable. Not a chance now, just have to bide my time and wait for some to find the novelty of a boat in the UK to wear off

Because people can't go abroad for holidays. Last year river cruisers that would normally take a month or more to sell were snapped up in days. I enquired about a few boats mid summer last year that looked in stock from a broker who deals with mainly inland waterways stuff.
He told me everything had sold, he had virtually no stock and never seen anything like it.

Guess it's what happens when millions of people cannot get abroad.

Could be a few bargains then when it is over and they realise that going abroad is cheaper and easier than boating.
