The Sea Fury crashed here about 40mins ago.

I was outside when it took off, by the time it was over my house the old girl was coming down fast.

She went in at Limington, took out a few telegraph poles etc.

No idea on the status of the pilot or anyone on the ground as yet.

Nooo, they aren’t having much luck, are they?! The Sea Fury and the Vixen to fix frown Navy Wings only got VX281, the T20 twin seat back very recently.

Crew are confirmed as OK.

Limington is just to the SW of the base, I'm directly South.

It flew over me and didn't sound right - was dropping like a stone too, so assume it's eaten a piston.

Is that the same one featured in Trevantus's Shuttleworth pics?

Quite likely, yes.

They only flew her back to Yeovilton last week from winter storage/service. frown

I don't think they'll be able to fix her this time.

All you need is a data plate, time and money.

Sadly, I doubt Navy Wings will be able to raise the funds that would be required to fix it.

As said, they only got it back from North Weald on Friday last week frown

But, sadly I think the days of any airworthy Centaurus powered aircraft are now very numbered.

Navy Wings statement:

Sea Fury T.20

"Navy Wings’ Sea Fury T.20 made a precautionary forced landing in a field next to RNAS Yeovilton following a problem with the engine on a routine training flight this afternoon. Both pilots are safe and well and have been taken to Yeovil district Hospital for a precautionary check-up. The cause is under investigation and both the CAA and Air Accident Investigation Branch have been informed. No further information is available at this time."

They weren't when there was the OEM support for the engine which is no longer there, and most of the old guys that worked on them in the 60's and 70's are now no longer around.

I know the phrase "any landing you can walk away from is a good one" applies here, but upside down in a field doesn't quite sound like a "precautionary" forced landing but more like a crash.

That's sad but good to hear everyone is OK. My great uncle used to fly these. They sounded a real handful. The carrier ops sounded pretty scrotum tightening.

Good that the crew are unhurt. Shame as it must be written off now. I was looking forward to seeing it at Shuttleworth this weekend. The P47 has had to pull out as well.

I assume it was "precautionary" because the engine was still running, but in the process of dismantling itself.. So you could keep going until it quits or start the ball rolling with at least a little power to play with.
