Ask a Russian Oligarch's Superyacht crew anything...
Discussion
Very interesting thread, just extremely unfortunate timing.
Whether the boss is a named sanctioned person or not, there's every likelihood he has battened down the hatches and is losing a huge amount of money at the moment. If the OP is still in a job, I expect he's working very hard on not giving anyone a reason to sack him.

This is an interesting step and interesting to see how it’s policed. I was wondering how if ‘owners’ assets are frozen resulting in crew and bills not being paid then surely that affects boats out of sanction areas too? So SY A is arrested in Italy but MY A is out in Dubai (or was) surely the assets for that are frozen too? I know they’ll be differing “owning” companies but the beneficial owner will be the same?
There’s a YouTube channel called esysman superyachts that has a few good videos on the subject for those wanting more insight.
Sure the OP is OK just not posting as his alter ego at the minute.

I posted a link regarding this last night - with esysman. This is an interesting step and interesting to see how it’s policed. The thing is, IMVHO, the superyacht embargoes are largely a publicity stunt. In the big picture, the superyachts are irrelevant. Moreover, the oligarchs will all have a diverse enough portfolio of funds and investments that on a day to day basis, life will continue quite comfortably.
But for the optics of the sanctions and embargoes, it's almost certainly "necessary".
Just discovered this thread, very interesting read…hope the OP is okay. But for the optics of the sanctions and embargoes, it's almost certainly "necessary".
Re Oligarchs having money all over the place I read somewhere a couple of days ago Abramovich has a monthly payroll of $750k which he is struggling to meet. He won’t be able to pay his staff in western currency and he won’t be able to buy fuel anywhere outside Russia as he won’t be able to pay in rubles., I’d imagine the sanctions are causing massive issues for any of these Oligarch’s whether they are on the list or not.
Think about the winter works the OP talked about….if you’re say a Norwegian or German shipyard are you going to undertake a three month winter refurb programme if there’s a very decent chance you won’t get paid ?

Since Abramovich is an Israeli citizen I doubt he’s struggling for money, and I don’t think he’s been sanctioned by the US yet either.Re Oligarchs having money all over the place I read somewhere a couple of days ago Abramovich has a monthly payroll of $750k which he is struggling to meet. The OP has sunk under the weight of the offshore shell companies, phoney charter agreements, discretionary asset protection trusts in Cook Islands or Nevis, option arrangements, bogus UBOs, split equity corporations, hybrid companies, protected cell companies, anstalts, bearer instruments, fiduciary deposits, ......all created with liberal sprinkling of NDAs by imaginative generously remunerated lawyers to shield the true ownership of Vladimir's floating play pen.
