and, of course, the J's weren't built for speed... they were built to maximise performance within the envelope of the Universal Rule wink

I think Sp is claiming that she is both a large J-Class and built for speed
My boat was also built for speed but I don't go around calling it 'effectively a small J-Class' biggrin
You're right, it's a heinous crime. biggrin

Look where we are with America's Cup Yachts. I assume a few Super Yachts will be in NZ next year for the racing.

If they are allowed in NZ waters by then, currently they are not. I know we are planning on going down but its all a bit up in the air at the moment.

J Class have already pulled out, but I think SYRA are still hoping to go to NZ at this time.

A great video has popped up on my LinkedIn of Maltese Falcon in for her Dru Dock (in a floating Dock)
I’ll see if I can source another way

Whilst it’s not in the £60+ gang I stumbled across this the other day whilst staring at their tenders and yachts.

So I’ve purchased my euromillions ticket!

Here’s the yacht that caused me to take a look at their website: https://youtu.be/42FIyhCDDB4
Sorry to sidetrack this thread but it’s still probably the best place to post this. They’ve completed a baby £5-6mil boat. May try and hunt it down in the hamble.

One of the few boats that matches the beauty of a J... exquisite!

The only issue with it is you end up with a massively expensive toy that’s only really suited to relatively short journeys. It would cross oceans, but nowhere near as comfortably or safely as something from Swan or Southern Wind Shipyards.

You may need to reassess the price though... somewhere around 3x £5-6M I would think. A Swan 115 is c.$20M, and relatively mass produced compared to the Spirit.

Not a problem. Never had a boss or heard of one doing a major crossing with his boat.

The Spirit has no crew berths, none of the owner/guest berths are suitable for even a mild heel, the galley has nowhere to brace on port tack and, as far as I could see, it has no hand rails below.

It’s only crossing oceans on the back of a transport ship. You couldn’t even take it across the Bay of Biscay unless you were 100% confident of a gentle breeze and nothing upwind.

It’s still incredibly desirable though.

It looks like the racing schedule will be pushed out to cater for any restrictions. Makes sense

I must admit, whilst spanky (and obviously unquestionably beautiful on the exterior) the 'practicality of being on her for anything more than a Day boat or bobbing in a bay at anchor has me wondering how much the 30yr old owner has to spunk on a toy (that they insist they intend to use)

As posted above, I doubt this is over £60m, but still expensive. Another one from Spirit. I think the interior is a bit too modern against the classy exterior, but it's still lovely to my untrained eyes

Wow. I love that practicality is nowhere to be seen, and yet totally usable. And the lack of crew quarters. That says a lot about the owner's taste and intentions. Unapologetically stunning. What I wouldn't give for a weekend on that...

Yeah that does look absolutely incredible. I love the electric power that regenerates from the prop, and having a locker for two electric motorbikes as well.

Seems like it's got a very specific purpose in mind - presumably island-hopping in the med or similar where you're less than a day away from shore. Hence little practicality needed.

Properly gorgeous.

The right shaped rig, the right shaped hull and a lifetime of varnishing!

How about a ‘modern’ J for about half the price of the Spirit.

https://www.ypiyachts.com/en/luxury-yacht-for-sale...

Built from modern materials to the class regs, so eligible for some of the most exclusive regattas in sailing... though you’d need another small fortune for permanent crew and another to hire more crew to race her.

Endeavour was up for sale a few years back at €17.5m.
