Mustangs have midair collision at Duxford airshow this weekend
https://youtu.be/M29tkXQOAq8

fast forward to 10:45 to see the hit (not too dramatic)
then 11:55 the mustang on finals, can clearly see damage to the port elevator

So pleased the pilot got her down safe

Night exercise at RAF Coningsby

https://youtu.be/DLSsoolMuQU

Filmed this myself at RAF Coningsby last week while the Typhoons were on night exercise, didn't realise just how much the exhausts glow even without reheat

why does the phantom have such a long nose wheel on take off, and a normal height one on landing?

To generate more lift for takeoff due to increased angle of attack

It was a specific feature of the FG1s operated by the Royal Navy. The length of Ark Royal's deck was limited and the nose needed to be jacked up so that the wing generated more lift in the short take off run. US Navy Phantom's didn't need to do this as the decks they operated off were longer and, of course, land based Phantoms didn't need this feature either.

Accompanying the B-52 take off photo on the other thread this video clip (probably posted before but good to see again) shows the difference between the lumbering B-52's nose down take off and something a little more sporty following it down the runway.
