With 32 SR-71s and 13 A-12s, 45 in total, if they weren't lost to accidents like above they have all survived in Museums (29 of them). Other than Concorde I can't think of another production aircraft that has survived in it's entirety (other than accident losses) and escaped the scrappers.

F-117? There was a rumour on Twitter that two were currently flying/ in flying condition.

One Concorde was scrapped years ago.

I always ignore the French, although I think that was scrapped after a heavy landing putting it out of service and then used as spares (according to SST for 12 years). So not too bad.

And (above) F-117s are being scrapped/being scrapped in a military review. 4 a year are going.

Ah sad news - always hate to hear / see old birds scrapped - last I heard that the F117s were all in storage which always gives you hope they may fly again.

what about the U2? - know a few were preserved / stored at places like Alconbury.

That’s the U2S/U2R (TR1) fiscal years 67 & 80- I was thinking the earlier (smaller) ones from the early 60’s ala Gary Powers.

Seems like U-2A/B/C/D and CT are either preserved or crashed / shot down according to here.

Sadly most of the 7 I saw out of Mildenhall have crashed subsequently 10331/2/3/6/7/8/9.

Enjoyed the film.

The one’s I saw recovered at Mildenhall and at Alconbury(TR-1s) the chaps used to leap out of the chase car and just catch the wing tip as the planes stopped and started to drop towards the ground - they always seemed to go to the wing tip that was dropping and not the other one which was quite some distance away

I remember an Airtours one doing something similar at a Southend seafront airshow about 20 years ago. The commentator said it was full of holidaymakers en route to the Mediterranean, but he may have been pulling our leg.
