In '97 the B1 and B52 were here on the ground - the B2 did a fly through.

The Holy Trinity together at Fairford yesterday. First time in Europe. USAF photo.
The B2 left yesterday evening, despite living 40 miles away from Fairford it pretty much sounded like the world was ending as it passed over our house.

Just looked for video of that, and it in fact landed. But the others had already taken off for their displays, so you're still right that they weren't all here at once! smile

I remember being round there a few years ago when 2 VC10s came over low and in close formation presumably heading into Brize Norton. Now that was loud.

As an air cadet at Brize Norton late 70,s, camping near the runway, the VC10 certainly sounded louder than Concord on take off. Latter training at the base for something or another.

They tried to get us flights on Concord but told too much hassle. Still, got the vomit comet treatment on a VC 10. Not the full time but enough to juggle us around and bounce off the roof and skate around on the rollers. Fun days.

Yes it has but no doubt someone will be along to identify the aircraft off in the far distance, where it was taken and the date.

Sadly, despite knowing in advance, I could not get there, but a B1 left Fairford at 1am this morning.
Not my pic obviously

And just how small the Mirage III (and derivatives) were.

Really the first time they've all been here together, or just the first time they've been photographed together?

I'd have sworn they were all here for a Air Tattoo once, but happy to be wrong.
I'm pretty sure all three were on static display at the 1999 Air Tattoo, they may not have been parked together but I'm sure I recall them all being there.

There's a problem with that display, three aeroplanes are in 1:48 an one's in 1:72. They've got the painting spot on though!

Don't know why but the Vulcan cockpit canopy always pissed me off. If it had the front end of the Victor on it, it would have been seriously sleek.

I believe it's some huge radar in the nose of the Vulcan and Valiant, but how they managed with a much smaller one in the Victor only a few years later I don't know.

A old schoolmate went to do a degree in aeronautical engineering or similar. In his spare time he worked on a not very serious design for a 'Super Vulcan', how he thought it would look if put back into production. He certainly got rid of the cockpit hump but I can't remember his explanation.

On the Victor it's in the big bulge under the cockpit.
