That’s went wrong VERY quickly.

I guess you need to take up the strain in a more gradual way otherwise physics wins.

Apparently (according to comments) it was during filming of a low budget action movie.
Well, that certainly used up the budget!
Got some action though!

Pretty amazing:

"The men on the right are about to parachute into Normandy on D-Day, 1944. The men on the left are the very same group 70 years later. Even more amazing, they are on the same plane which carried them."

who are these guys then?

they are parachute veterans, the old pic is ww2, but just not the same guys

Looks great. I like the time lapse ones they make showing all the arrivals or departures in one photo also.

I had never heard of this plane before, but it's quite cool.

This is SOFIA

Someone directed me to this thread. Perhaps this photo has already been posted, and if so, I apologise. The opening of the very first Goodwood Revival in 1998. Ray Hannah decided to buzz the tower.

I'm glad they've managed to recover it up the beach, it had been stuck on the waterline for a while and there were fears it might break up, which would be a real shame for a one of piece of history like that.

How did I know that was going to be Ray Hanna before I even read the text hehe

Perhaps because the picture has been posted many times?

He did get told off for it as well.

Did he do it on both days? I was there for one day only that weekend but don’t remember seeing it, but I could have been elsewhere around the circuit. Of course if he did it on the Saturday and got told not to do it again on the Sunday, then that might explain it.

It was quite a risky thing to do. I saw Hannah fly displays many times and they were all very exciting and relatively safely done. But they were generally over the airfield/aerodrome. This was down a start - finish straight with all sorts of obstacles quite close to the wing tips such as buildings, flag poles, towers and grandstands.

This was on the Friday and a once-only performance. He had kept quiet about it and told no one beforehand. After his death, they paraded the same Spitfire from Woodcote down to the pits in his honour. Sorry to have repeated the photo.

OK thanks. I wouldn’t have been there on the Friday, so that explains why I don’t remember seeing it happen!

It's a bit like Tex Johnson's rolling of the prototype Boeing 707 at a Seattle boat show.

He was told by the boss of Boeing, "Tex, that was very impressive - don't do it again".
