I still pine for the original, black label Toro - that was such a high quality bargain!
I switched to the Toro organic, its not as good but perfectly okay.

Also, real cheapo is the Cambalala South African Pinotage at £3.89. I bought it to cook with and ended up drinking it!

I didn't rate the Toro organic.

I'm not restricted to cheap wines. Just thought the Toro black was a bargain.

Happy to indulge in Aldi/Lidl's £7-12 stuff, but just want some collective oohs and aahs first biggrin

Not Aldi I know, but for this price bracket, check out the Porto 6 from Majestic, one of the finest wines I have ever had £6.99 a bottle if you buy 6 smile

An Italian friend of mine swears by the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo at £3.99. It's very good for the money.

Anyone tried their Amarone yet?

I have a couple of years ago, it's very good. Will get some in this year if they have it in stock. Only reason I didn't last year was because I had an Amerone in a case from Naked.

I've just bought some of that from Majestic Calais for £3.49 a bottle. It is nice.

Wagyu ribeye & sirloin back in stock at £7.99. Although the 30 day Angus ribeye at half the price seemed a better buy so that got bought instead

Aldi , one of the Bristol stores. There were loads there as well. From reading here I thought they were normally gone within minutes of hitting the shelves.
Now I’m home I wish I’d bought them all of course.

Called in for a spiced fruit loaf, left additionally with some of the chocolate coated stollen bites. This was a bad move, very more-ish.
Those chocolate stollen bites are delicious lick

For a daily glug with dinner, that's the one for us (even the standard Toro Loco is more than passable).

In other news, we picked up some of those "Wagyu" rib-eyes earlier today, and are very much looking forward to them as Aldi's "Wagyu" burgers are exceptionally good.

I bought four, two of each. Had the Rib Eye the other night and thought it was very good indeed.

Will be trying the Sirloin tonight.

Tried one of Aldi's Specially Selected frozen pizzas last night - the one on the left below. Really didn't rate it at all; cardboard base, went cold in a second. No clear flavours. And the rocket really didn't appreciate being frozen and then blasted.

The one on the right remains my favourite frozen pizza from Aldi. Whilst their 'filthy' ones (stuffed crust jobbies) are certainly ace in the right situation, the one below right has the cleanest, freshest taste of any frozen pizza I've tried. In the summer, it's great with a side salad; in the winter it rises well to accompany a beer. Stays hot appropriately; the tomato base has a real zing and the cheese is super-elastic.

Rarely drink alcohol myself these days but want to get some lager in for Christmas visitors. Can anyone recommend any of the Aldi ones or are they a bit crap ?
Thanks

The Aldi one, forget the name, isn't very nice. The Lidl one Perlenbacher (sp) in 500ml bottles is not bad at all. I think its 4.8% and about 90p a bottle.

I quite like Aldi’s Rheinbacher, German purity and all that. SAN Miguel at £1.50 a bottle is a decent price too. Just stay away from their German Weiss beer, I love it but everyone else wretches something awful hehe

Brasserie 1897 (looks very similar to Kronenbourg 1664 hehe) is surprisingly good for the price, Steinhäuser is a German pilsner and probably their best own beer, very crisp and refreshing pilsner. They do one in a 500ml bottle for something like 89p which is fine but rather bland

Worth grabbing a few San Miguel 660ml bottles @ £1.50

Picked up a bag of poverty wine gums by mistake (meant to grab 2 bags of Maynards and the 2nd pack turned out to be Sugarland). Have to say they are very good, far more chewy than the Maynards and a range of good strong flavours. And the bag is filled much fuller despite being more or less the same size for less money too.
For balance tried the Aldi version last night, poor effort from them. Nowhere near as chewy and a more chemically type of flavour. Also left a nasty claggy coating in the roof of the mouth.

Sugarland all the way!
