- Aldi only opened locally to me last Easter. I’ll look out for them. Any knowledge of the build quality etc?

They're certainly on par with the Clarke's ones from Machine Mart, and around 50-60% of the price.

Wait until you try a bowl. Now I'm fully Kübler-Ross aware, but this is not a change I am dealing with well. Note the lack of 'new recipe' or some-such approach to draw us to the fact that they have butchered the mix; just one look at the window box on your picture reveals the truth - it's not got any sodding nuts in view!

Porridge oats:

It's too much I tell you, too much.

Edited because got pictures mixed up in frothing rage.
Ah. From 17.5% nuts to 13% nuts. That's not 'really' nutty frown

And yummy dates down from 9% to 6% too.

Time for some Twitter bhing!

She should be reading this thread each morning with her coffee. Great customer intel!

While you're at it, can she also get the fresh produce buyers to stop the kale farmers from putting their product through a greenery chipper. It leaves the customer having to sort through every bit of kale removing the bits of stalk. If they just sold the full stalks, it takes seconds to strim off the leafy bits at home.

Nice, thanks. Whilst you're at it, could you ask that they get a 'decent' crisp (tyrrells/kettle style) in multipacks?

:-)

Edit: fk the kale.

She won't biggrin

I get freebies sometimes... 'try this and let me know what you think'

So some items might be partly my fault smile

If she has any freebies she’s like me to try I’m in to that. Especially SnapOn-esque hair accessory tool cabinets.

A man in Lidl with no teef just recommended the Deluxe Sticky Toffee Pudding to me. Ive eaten this previously but didn’t tell him. I feel dirty. Might nip to Waitrose.
Aldi STPud is much better than Lidl.....in my opinion. And I have all my own teeth.

A big dollop of their version of hagan daas, caramel vanilla flavour ice cream. Gorgeous.

I make it on sundays for me and the kids, knowing full well the kids don't like it. So I eat theirs too. Magic.

Aldi Fresh Spiced Parsnip soup, I make my own soup at home, but tight for time today, so bought this soup and a sandwich for lunch.

The soup is yuck, poured what was in the cup down the drain and binned the rest.

Had to resort to a tin of Heinz Mulligatwny I had as backup....

Tesco do a Chicken Mulligatawny fresh soup which is ace, but needs a lot of salt adding to get the taste right.....

I expect that's because they have reduced the salt in their recipe to keep the nanny state happy.

This is the case with so much food now. Being able to season food correctly is a critical skill for any cook or chef. Fair enough, some people prefer unseasoned food but the majority do not. Having to add salt to a meal after its cooked means its not been cooked correctly, either that or you are a salt addict wink

I primarily add salt to flavour, usually when cooking.

In this instance I add salt, as without, it has little flavour.

The bonus of adding salt, is I suffer leg cramps when cycling.....additional salt in my diet helps with that...

As you obviously know salt is an important part of human (and animal) diets. We don't need as much as we might use or like but salt helping with cramp is an obvious link.

Maybe someone should tell those who demonise salt (and sugar et all!)

I would consider myself a “home cook” at my level of cooking and I season whilst concocting whatever it is I am making.

What really grinds my gears, is people who put salt and pepper on food at the table without trying the food first.

My missus is a repeat offender and I’m gradually educating her to sample before adding anything.

For a lot, it’s simply habit.....

Now back on topic, I had a Coronation Chicken sandwich from Aldi at lunchtime. It was ok but I’ve had better.

Their New York Deli with pastrami and wmmental was good, but I used to add extra gherkin to liven it up....

On the subject of Aldi shredded Kale, and the de-healthification thereof, toss it in a bit of olive oil and a ridiculous amount of sea salt and chilli flakes, spread it out over a baking tray and lob it in the oven for a short while.

Divine.

All of your 5-a-day, whilst crucially ensuring that you won't get any healthier.

I stewify it. (excuse the dodgy Waitrose sossidges. They were bloody dreadful)
