This week I have mostly been buying Aldi Columbian coffee beans. They were on offer at £1.59, great for the price. I usually get a bulk bag of Lavazza beans from Costco but these are not far off.

I tried the Sweet Potato and the Beetroot burgers this week, quite okay, and better than most veggie burgers. Worth stocking for the fussy person at a BBQ.

Anyone tried 'The Perfect Burger'. Sounds nice, but they all had a greyness about them which I just couldn't see past.

"Expertly blended with bone marrow for superior flavour" ?
So not beef then.
Keep up! winkwink

Adding a little bone marrow to the beef is all the rage these days and results in a premium price
That looks awful.

For the money I'd rather buy Lidl rib steak and chop it very finely for steak haché. Even the cheaper rib steak works very well, and obviously you can adjust the fat content depending how much you trim off.
I was reading something recently about nitrites in food. One of the main reasons they're used in meat is to give a pink colour rather than its natural grey-ish tinge because it makes it more appealing to consumers.

I don't know what effect bone marrow might have (except on taste) but we tend to be more squeamish and picky about colour than we first imagine. I'd be very happy to eat those burgers.
And nitrites can turn into nitrosamines ---very bad. evil

If at Costco get the Kirkland medium house blend in the green bag. Roasted by Starbucks. That aside they taste, to my pallet much nicer than the Lavazza.

I had the sweet potato burgers this week and they were great. I didn't try them like burgers as such though, instead of a bun I just chucked one on the plate to bulk up some leftovers.

I agree, I buy the Lavazza when it’s on offer. I’m trying to resist going to Costco at the moment as I could do without spending a few hundred quid on stuff I don’t really need.

Thought the Burger was pretty good to be honest, I ignored the cooking instructions and cooked in the pan with the lid on and it was properly juicy! And managed to top up on the Urban Slate paint! Good times!

We had some of the frozen hot and spicy chicken thigh burgers from Aldi last night, they were quite nice. Coating was crispy and the meat was quite moist.

Two disappointments from Aldi this weekend.

First was that as we were having pizza for dinner on Friday I thought I’d try a red called ‘This Sangiovese loves Pizza’ - it was pretty rank. Latest reviews not good either, I even had some left over by Sunday which is unheard of. Helped in onion gravy.

The second was Maris piper spuds. Out of a 2.5kg bag I got just enough for mash for 5 people, loads of bad bits in the potatoes. If I could be arsed I would take them back but didn’t fancy brining a load of potato peelings back from a weekend away.

Indeed. We're coming out of winter; fruit has been shipped huge distances and is so easily damaged.

Pro tip if you spot damaged/spoiled fruit in a supermarket: don't buy it.

First example I found of badly mouldy produce on sale was in Waitrose. In our experience almost any store can have issues, you just have to use mk1 eyeball detection methods.

As for Lidl after two consecutive bags of spuds that turned out to be clearly gone we've treated them with much more care. Don't shop in Aldi much, have to go out of way to find one, but haven't seen much in way of suspect produce on display, but as said limited experience. Maybe Sparks have a grip on things but who actually buys their veg from Marks?

Living in a farming area use decent local farm shops mostly, or in the case of asparagus and some fruits, nip over the garden fence, when in season obvs, and simply drop the cash in the honesty box.

my local Tesco, Asda and waitrose never had any issues, yet ive seen moldy fruit every visit at lidl, i bought some lychees covered in mould, you shouldn't have to check., the common denominator is sealed plastic tubs.
