Use square bags, put in trolley, just load as they scan, easy. Just load conveyor heavy stuff first.
The big blue bags from IKEA are perfect for fitting in the trolley at Aldi.So it was said by many on here yesterday.
Staff used to be trained to a scanning speed of minimum ‘x’ items per minute and this was monitored. Along with two handed scanning.
Staff are multi skilled, from unloading pallets and stacking shelves, removing waste card and jumping on and off tills at speed. All of this is intended to keep costs down. If you want to spend an extra ten minutes chatting at the till and neatly packing your bag in Aldi and Lidl either expect to pay higher prices or go to M&S/Waitrose.
One of the worst things Aldi/Lidl did was bring baskets in. Initially it was trolleys only for the reason of speed as well as cost saving and expecting a customer to spend bigger. Basket shoppers take too long at the till.
FFS what is it with some people?
The accepted - and requested - process if you have a trolley is to chuck it all back in the trolley and then go and pack it on the packing shelf (clue in name) at the back. There even used to be signs requesting this, I suspect there still are.
This works perfectly well and is indeed essential to the smooth running of the whole operation.
But no, some people know better and HAVE to pack as they go because that's how it works in the 'normal' supermarkets. You know, the ones where it costs about twice as much. This then holds everyone else up. But who cares about other people eh?
Are these the same sort of people who stop on roundabouts to let traffic join, because they think it's polite despite what the actual rules say?
Baskets are an anomaly I'll grant you, I don't know why they brought those in, there was never any need back in the day. Maybe you're actually supposed to keep the basket with you like you do a trolley and load everything back into it. I suspect that might be the case actually.
Aldi and Lidl work a certain way, just bloody stick to it please, it makes life so much easier for everyone.

Back when I was a teenager working at the co-op on Saturdays the "chute" at the end of the till was sloped and had a hinged divider to let the last customer finish packing while scanning the next one's in the other side.
How is that even possible? I think what he means is that he's finished paying but still not finished packing at the till, so cashier moves on to next person whilst he's still dithering.

Just load the conveyor belt in the order you want to pack things in and you can pack at the checkout. It's not rocket science.
then while your still packing things they start scanning the next person. its not very good.Back to the food, a few grumbles from me:
1. Aldi's version of Oatso Simple 'just add milk' porridge is disgusting, doesn't seem to absorb the milk anywhere near as well as Quaker and doesn't have the useful line on the packet showing how much milk to put in.
2. Last 2 batches of potatoes have been crap. The first lot had a rotten one in the middle of the bag which tainted half the bag so that was half a bag wasted, the second lot (pack of 4 baking potatoes) had one of them manky and had to be chucked.
3. Carrots only come in a big bag, but if you don't use all of them within a day or two they quickly go manky.
So, unfortunately a bit of a false economy where the veg costs less than other places but you can only use a smaller proportion.

The first lot had a rotten one in the middle of the bag which tainted half the bag so that was half a bag wasted, the second lot (pack of 4 baking potatoes) had one of them manky and had to be chucked. British potatoes seem, too often, to be of poor quality. Whether at Aldi or anywhere else, I tend to buy premium brands with higher QC standards to avoid that very disappointment, e.g. Rooster
3. Carrots only come in a big bag, but if you don't use all of them within a day or two they quickly go manky. That is super weird. Where do keep your carrots? Mine go in the drawer in the bottom of the fridge and easily last 3+ weeks. If they're going mushy, you must have water (condensation?) building up within the bag. If they're just going a bit bendy, a few mins in cold water will refresh them

Few suggestions...^^1. Aldi's version of Oatso Simple 'just add milk' porridge is disgusting, doesn't seem to absorb the milk anywhere near as well as Quaker and doesn't have the useful line on the packet showing how much milk to put in. Is the line on the outside, on the label?

I find Aldi/Lidl good for some things and rubbish for others.
I've found the fruit and veg doesn't last as long as Tesco. And the customer service is generally shocking in ours. Closing all the tills forcing you to use the self service ones. Plus the checkout anxiety as they scan it so quickly with no packing area.
As for packing without a packing area: you're doing it wrong. Everything goes back in the trolley and you pack on the shelf in the window (in Aldi).I've found the fruit and veg doesn't last as long as Tesco.
