Only just spotted this one (sorry if its been covered before)

Aldi's version of Marmite.

Its not the same, but its pretty damn good - easier to spread, less messy too.

£1 cheaper than the jars its located next too as well.

ETA - not my pic... sorry its huge!
Oooh wonder if this is a new line as I’ve not seen this before. Big Marmite fan so will give this a try. It’s taken half a jar of Peanut Butter Marmite for me to decide its wrong.
Don't get too excited - its not got the same 'mighty-kick'.. but then again real Marmite has been toned down over the years - I remember when too much of that stuff could burn you!

But at £1 cheaper per pot its an awesome addition to stews and other dishes.. I've heard its great on pizza and roast potatoes too.
Bought a jar. If you are a hardcore marmite eater its no better value as I'm using more to compensate for the lower strength of flavour.

My Wife didn't even need prompting to get this lot for me from Aldi !

WTF! Is that ready to eat? That would give me the sts!
Don't eat any then! wink

Tins / jars of "fruits de mer" are commonly sold on ze Continent.... smile
I don’t mind a bit of octopus catalpa a while on holiday but I not sure about that! Does it need warming up before you eat it?
Is this unique to certain Aldis? when Ive not noticed this anywhere when i've been going this week
Opened the first jar, disappointing flavours (weak all tastes genericly fishy) and texture is too chewy, probably wont finish, unless I get the nibbles after a few cans of beer.

After my biennial falling out with Lidl last week after a long build up of shortcomings and me spitting my dummy out, I did my regular weekly shop at Morrison's.

I felt like an Ossi visiting a Western supermarket for the first time after the wall came down.

The bill came to the same as usual but as I was able to get a full shop without having to go elsewhere to pick up shortages, so in real terms it was cheaper.

And I got some decent steaks.

Bye.

Remarkable coincidence.....

They have just opened a new Morry's on the way to my dear old (93) Mum's.

I usually do her shopping in Aldi.

Today, I ventured into the uncharted land that is Morrisons.

Got to say it was very good. Very helpful staff, excellent cheese selection, Fresh meat and fish counters.
Love their tiger bloomer!
Free paper bags for my fresh fruit and veg which looked to be much better quality than Aldi.
I'll report back on their Assam tea-bags. Although, Aldi don't sell these.

Spent about the usual and was served by a very pleasant, efficient, older lady on the till who scanned the goods at a more manageable speed.

Watch out Aldi!

They’re pretty good too.

Considering you literally have to sling them in the oven for an hour and they’re it done they’re pretty good.

I usually only eat duck when I’m out so it’s a bit of a treat

Lidl in Lux is terrible, IME.
Aldi Lux have only just started to up their game to UK PH'ers usually expected levels. They're not quite there yet, not in Jungle Listener, anyway.

Why do they need to freeze confit duck legs? Tinned ones keep for years preserved in their own fat.

I like Morrisons too but I think they are fairly expensive comparatively.

I've done the rounds of pretty much them all and IMHO I think Asda offer the best value for money.

Frankly think the district the supermarket serves and therefore the makeup of it's typical customer is more important than brand. Seeing as folks are discussing Morrison's, the nearest to us about 6 miles away in next town, it's a freak show, and yes I am about to be snobby. Based on experience a much larger proportion of large 'council' types than used to, many of them a body shape best described as an egg on legs. Yet the store in a town about 25 minutes away completely different kettle of fish, both in customers and the standard of store housekeeping.

Yet in this second town, across the other side, Asda, if I'd called the earlier Morrison's a freak show not really sure what I'd call this place, it's just the most depressing hole imaginable, constantly expect to see a customer with a single eye mid forehead. Asda in the middle of the county city, far more pleasant.

Though to argue against myself, the Waitrose just round the corner from the horror show Asda is just Waitrose as we know it, though it is the stop of choice for yummy mummies on the school run to the private grammar school.

I'm lucky to have all supermarkets within 20 mins of where I live but as Morrisons is the closest, that has been my local for years. I decided to try out new supermarkets and I gotta say I've come to the conclusion that Morrisons is massively overpriced, probably more than Waitrose considering the quality and products you get.

I now show at Lidl. Our usual shop in Morrisons came to £50-60 now at Lidl It's between £35-45.

I do have a theory that some people in our area think of Aldi and Lidl as the poormans choice, these image conscious people shop at Asda as its more expensive to shop (there is no other supermarket within 20 minutes drive).
