Would be interested to hear more recipes smile
For something simple, splash of Lea & Perrins and a good dollop of mayo mixed in at the end. Melt cheese over the top.

Sainsburys own brand are the bean of choice in our house followed by Branston.
Heinz used to be good but far to watery nowadays.

Whenever I eat baked beans, I have a craving for a pint of milk after.

Cant remember the name but the ones from Aldi are just as good as the Branston ones.
Aldi beans are called 'Corale', my youngest lad loves them, especially with the sausages. For me it's got to be 'Branston' with a good sprinkling of black pepper chucked in as they are warming up in the saucepan, they are the best in my opinion...

Sauté a small/medium onion, a clove of garlic and a green chili or four.

Stir in a teaspoon of curry powder (or your own blend of garam masala to taste). Bit of paprika if desired. Before things start to burn, pour in a tin of beans and stir. Once everything starts to bubble, turn of the heat and let it rest while you prepare yourself (bit of toast, or crisped naan bread).

Serve. Enjoy.

Just tried this - wow! I think I have found a use for all the tins of baked beans in the cupboard!

I see what people mean about the Heinz ones being a bit watery - I had to simmer it for longer than anticipated to reduce it down a bit. Even still, I am full! smile

Old thread bump.

Branston doesn’t taste the same to me anymore; they must have reduced the sugar content or something. Anyone else feel the same?

They taste like the old HP recipe to me.
Yes, old HP was my pick, when they’re no more I switched to Branston. But now Branston doesn’t taste as good as the ‘old’ Branston. frown

You haven’t bought the reduced sugar and salt by mistake have you?

Still Branston beans for me. By a long way. Other opinions are valid though.

No, normal ones.

Just seem they don’t taste as sweet and as rich as before.

My housemate and I sat down last night to a proper Council Tea of sausages, (Heinz) beans and mash.

Had to add salt to it.

Not like the old days when this would have been like adding salt to salt.

A good thread bump is my second favourite thing on the planet.

I like cheap beans. If they are cheap they are good.

Aldi. Lidl. Cheapness is what counts.

Branston are by far the best! You can keep your watery Heinz. Teaspoon of madras curry powder into a hot dry pan for 20 seconds then in with the beans. Nom!

I much prefer Branston.
Heinz have an unpleasant metallic twangy aftertaste.

Seems they’re plenty of you remain to be Branston fans. Perhaps my taste buds have changed hence Branston tastes different to me!

Recently moved from Branston (4/£2) to Lidl own brand (4/99p) not the cheapo ones but the mid range own brand. When thickened up on the hob and not microwaved there is little difference between the 2.

Best IMHO were Crosse & Blackwell.
Branston these days not bad.
I haven't tried Laldi. Give it a go when I'm released!
