Apparently it's exactly the same everywhere - they strip the local water of everything then put in the exact same quantity of minerals etc to reflect the water in Leuven. Supposedly this is standard practise amongst all the brewers who produce 'in market'. They were adamant about the fact that it's exactly the same product wherever you drink it.
I maintain that Stella tastes far better in Belgium and Kronenburg much nicer in France - but apparently this is psychosomatic
How can it be exactly the same if there is a different ABV in different markets?I maintain that Stella tastes far better in Belgium and Kronenburg much nicer in France - but apparently this is psychosomatic

I didn't pursue the questioning too far - they got pissed off with me when I repeatedly referred to their halo brand as 'wife beater'.

5!!! You must be a powerfully built company director!! I unfortunately am a weedy one!! However, I consider this the gauntlet thrown and will be restocking today for an attempt at 5 tomorrow evening!!Trophy Husband said:
I also like the IPA's that are around at the moment, Brew Dog Punk is especially tasty when cold. 5.9% ABV. 6 of the 275ml bottles and I'm anybody's!
I don't know what you were drinking but it wasn't Punk. It's 5.6% and Brewdog don't do 275ml bottles . Brewdog do a dark lager called Zeitgeist that's good if you can find it. Proper malty flavour.

I always love a Leffe, but I'm sure they're stronger than that. More like 6.5% than 5.5%.I also like the IPA's that are around at the moment, Brew Dog Punk is especially tasty when cold. 5.9% ABV. 6 of the 275ml bottles and I'm anybody's!
I had one last night as a nightcap after coming back from the pub. I was fine before it and completely sozzled after it.
I was serving in Bosnia in Aug 97, attached to the multinational force and HQ'd with the Americans at Tusla. We had Polish, Swedish, Norwegians, Finns and ........Belgians. The Belgians organised a bit of a party at their main HQ down near Sarajevo and a load of breweries sent over pallets of their finest wares. The leftovers were sent out to the outlying units. So, on Aug 30th 97 we set about them and got utterly trashed on Kwak and various other nasty 13% bottles of syrup. I remember it vividly for two reasons, I was woken up in the early hours to be told that Princess Diana had been killed in a car crash and, I was also killed by someone hitting me in the head with an Axe.........Or at least that is what it felt like. I swore that morning that I would never drink again, which I managed to uphold for at least 2 days.

I brought a 1 litre can/stein of Paulaner Oktoberfest beer back from Munich last year and bloody hell it was nice, and strong, it left me wondering why the you can't get the Munich breweries beers in this country, apart from maybe Lowenbrau.
There's a boozer in Manchester that does Paulaner on draft, it's very good! I've been on the 5l kegs of Warsteiner from Costco lately. Unfortunately once you crack it open you have to sup the full keg before it goes flat!Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
