I've got 5 bottles of Bacardi 151 here at home, gathering dust. Mrs T is from the Philippines, and it's a tenner a bottle over there so purely out of interest I picked a couple up, then the sister in law thought I must like it and brought some over when she came to visit...
Having tried it, it's awfully strong and not very nice to be honest, can someone suggest a good way to drink it or a good mixer?.
It's not very nice is it. Mix it with orange and pineapple juice, some cloudy lemonade and a drop of bitters with lots of ice. Makes it bearable lol.Having tried it, it's awfully strong and not very nice to be honest, can someone suggest a good way to drink it or a good mixer?.

Brutal...
Here's my small rum collection. We went to the Caribbean for Christmas so I picked up a new 1703 and a replacement for my favourite Mount Gay XO, I haven't started that yet as I'm determined to finish the English Harbour first.
The 1703 is always in the cupboard and is an early evening drink with ice and coke or ginger beer, the Morgans Spiced is usually mixed with Shrub which is a West Country thing and the Diplomatico is only got out after dinner when a a particular friend visits as it's his favourite.

My birthday present from my brother this year was the pre-charred oak aging barrel. No idea how it's going to turn out, but figured it was a little bit of fun.
The link to rum is that it is currently stewing some Wray and Nephew Overproof to see how it goes. Went in clear and with quite a kick on the 22nd Jan. Tried a tiny amount at the weekend and it's started to pick up colour and the heat has softened a little. Might give it the full month before letting it out properly.
Might then go for a whisky to pick up the rum flavour from the barrel. Who knows.

Just got a bottle of Stiggins' Fancy Pineapple Plantation Rum to try out.
And 5 samplers from MoM.
Angostura 1824
Doorlys XO
La Hechicera
Rum 66 Family Reserve 12yo
Santa Teresa 1796
The Pineapple Rum is ridiculous! Gone through it far too quickly. And 5 samplers from MoM.

Of the others - mostly disappointed tbh. Nothing surprised me. The Angostura, Doorlys and Rum66 were all squarely in the same camp as Mount Gay XO in terms of flavour, but some are notably more expensive. I think I'll stick to the XO for my go to rum.
The Santa Teresa was, hwoever, lovely stuff. Going to get a bottle shortly
Are you mixing the xo?
I wasn't so taken by santa Theresa.
Back from barbados now. I have enough xo to last a good while but foursquare is the most impressive producer on the island for me. Owned by the same family who produce sealed and doorlys and pride themselves on a back to basics approach. The 9yr port finish was great but I also managed to bag a very limited 12yr reserve bottling which seemed to be commissioned by one of the posh hotels. Amazing rum and I should have bought more than 1 bottle!

Mix? XO?
Good god man, no!
I don't tend to buy any rum for mixing tbh.
ETA: I did like the La Hechicera actually. Like a MG XO, or Doorly's XO, but less sweet. It tasted more pure, so I'd guess they don't add any sugar - I understand the others I've listed do, albeit to a very limited extent and certainly nothing like the extent that Diplomatico and others do.

Having spent the last decade sipping on neat whiskeys whilst watching my TV dramas, it has come as a bit of a surprise recently that I much prefer rum. I go to the Caribbean a lot and last year bought a great big bottle of Mount Gay which I finished off last week. I now can't stand the thought of drinking a whiskey - funny how your tastes change over time.
I'm keen to purchase a selection of rums to find out what I like the most. If you had to go out and buy say 5 bottles of very different flavours, which would you go for?

Tastes OK too. Much more rounded than I was expecting. Could easily drink it neat. Not perfect I'm sure, but a first attempt I'll class it as a win.
Whisky gone into the barrel so I'll bow out here.

You're missing out if you don't mix tbh, although it's easier to stomach doing so at $30 a litre. This evening the mrs is making pasta and 'challenged' me to make her a drink using the leftover basil. Ended up juicing a few limes and a blood orange then adding the juice to a handful of basil blended with maple syrup and a grind of salt. Used this sours mix with a glug of xo and some soda water served long. Very nice it was too.Good god man, no!

Spring cleaning over the weekend so thought I'd share my current rum 'collection'
I wouldn't /couldn't drink anything left of the ten cane neat. Even that at a push. For me, light for mixing, dark and heavy for best.
I'm comfortable in not mixing ta. Seems like a waste to me of a good drink
So, I finished the Plantation Pineapple Rum, and HAVE to get another bottle. It's simply brilliant stuff. I also didn't buy a bottle of Santa Teresa, but got this Mezan XO Jamaican rum from M&S instead:

Bit of reading suggests it's pretty pure stuff, with little or no colouring nor sugar. I'm intrigued.

I've managed to get my hands on a very limited edition rum - 1000 bottles, only 400 for sale (600 to family), 50 of which in the UK.
I can't find any shops online that have it for sale - but the ones that did have it were charging £2k (or more if the USA).
Does anyone know of any good places that buy limited edition rum? I'm thinking I could make a nice little profit to pay for my next holiday!!
Yes, I would love to try it, but I'm keeping it in perfect condition (its in it's leather case, the original hand blown decanter, the original crystal stopper, and unopened, surrounded by bubble wrap and in a box!)
