Amazon is generally a good place to pick up Mount Gay XO at a reasonable price. It's £33 at the moment which is imo a bit of a bargain.
Oooh you belter. There was me about to pay £90 for 2 bottles from MoM, and I can get 3 for £99 from Amazon cool

Thanks for that - about to make an order. Waitrose are actually £26 for the XO, but you can only order online and it's still taken from your local store - mine never has it in, plus of course no chance of booking a slot.

update - Waitrose is actually £40 down to £33 and Amazon is only on their Fresh area.

Diplomatico SBV 2005 seems to be available, would usually buy a few but given my businesses are currently closed I’m being responsible.

Have also just opened a beer though so could end up with some later.

Not sure what you mean by its only on Amazon's fresh area? It's in the main area when I look.

It was insisting I can only buy it on Amazon for £33 when it is placed in the Fresh Foods basket, else it's considerably more. Just looked again and there is a small 'other ways to buy' option - so now on order - cheers for questioning biggrin

Well my HMS Victory rum is very nearly gone, and though some might see it as a novelty I've really enjoyed it and would happily buy another bottle, definitely nothing subtle about this one.
The new arrival is something from Smith & Cross that caught my eye a while ago, seems well liked in most reviews I've seen too...

That Plantation Fiji looks interesting.

I wish I'd grabbed some more of the old MG XO. Got through 1 of my 2 bottles far too quickly and now it's hardly available anywhere, other than for ££. Might keep my last remaining full bottle.

Well I've got through one of my XOs and nearly through my stock of Plantation 3* white rum, so it was time for a top up:

If my collection was lost and I'd to go out and buy 5 bottles then I'd buy the below I reckon.

1. Plantation XO 20th Anniversary
2. Dictador XO Insolent
3. Diplimatico SBV (Whatever one is currently available).
4. El Dorado 21yr Old
5. Ron Zacapa XO

If I was giving advise my top 5 bang for buck rums :

1. El Dorardo 12
2. Ron Zacapa Solera 23
3. Diplimatico Reserva Exclusiva
4. Brugal 1888
5. Doorlys 12yr

I have a few that are exceptional and cannot be replaced however like Foursquare Zinfandel & Diplimatico SBV 2000.
I had a couple of bottles each of Foursquare Zinfandel, Port Cask and another one which was a limited bottling for one of the boutique hotels [i forget which]. I also had Flor de Cana 25, El Dorado 21, and a couple dozen others.

I say had, my [clearly mental] ex GF poured everything down the sink along with about 20 bottles of single malt and every other bottle of booze in the house, including a gin my mate and bottled himself to commemorate his wedding. Luckily he had some left, that's the only one I replaced.

Current rums on the go are Plantation Pineapple [not as good as made out here imo], Diplomatico Reserva, Ron Los Valientes 15, a Kirk & Sweeney 12 and Myers's Special Dark for mixing.

I've just seen that Mount Gay are changing the recipes and price points of its range. In particular Black Barrel and XO. It seems like they're finally nudging XO to a price point similar to many of it's competitors such as Appleton 12yo etc - currently showing at £54 for the new "triple cask" on Whisky Exchange vs £44 for the original Reserve Cask.

Article here

Here's hoping they don't f*** it up. I might get a couple of bottles of the original before it gets too hard to find.
Didn't XO change for the worse in recent years, so is just changing back? Or was that another recipe?

Myers's have changed their bottle, hope its not changed in content. Cheap and cheerful, tastes crap on its own but unbeaten with coke.

Mount Gay XO has only just changed AFAIK. It's been on the cards as there was simply too much overlap between XO and Black Barrel, with the former also relatively cheap compared to competitors' similar products. Add in the rise in interest in rum and, particularly, the les adulterated rums, and it was only a matter of time.
