So there will be an Aldi opening up close to work in 10 days or so.
Are any of their offerings worth keeping an eye out for?

Have also talked Rum with Richard a few times, I feel he should be flattered rather than angry his product has pretty much created the mass premium rum aftermarket.
I've around 30 open bottles of FourSquare and the same in investment bottles.
I well remember him capping the rrp of his products at outlets a few years ago to prevent ‘price exclusivity’. He’s a top man.I've around 30 open bottles of FourSquare and the same in investment bottles.
You have some fine rums :-)
I remember discovering four square during a business dinner in Barbados. Went to the distillery that week and bought 2 bottles of port cask for $8 each and a special edition made for one of the islands small hotels for $10!
We went to Hedonism wines in Mayfair last night and topped up the selection. We've only had the first taste so far of the new arrivals:
SBS Jamaican is Worthy Park so not too aggressive in Jamaican terms. At first taste it seems over oaked maybe?
Mexican rum is a thing! It's fresh cane and naturally fermented like rhum agricole. Made in the same stills as mescal. This one smells amazingly sweet but I can't put my finger on what it smells like. Grassy and vegetal flavours like a normal agricole and no sweetness. Good gear so far, I tried it in a cocktail tonight but it sort of faded away a bit.
Clairin Sajous is insane Haitian rum and I've had Haitian rums before. First smell seems like something that should not be consumed. After its aired out a bit, the initial impression is backed up by the second - headsey solvents galore. Taste is surprisingly delicious - full of ripe tropical fruit and fresh grass. Crazy juice! I'm looking forward to trying it in some cocktails and on ice and see if it calms down.
Is anyone else into fresh cane / agricole / cachaca etc?

anyone tried verdant works rum made in dundee of all places
Nope, but in the same vein, how about some Derbyshire rum. By the same folks doing the Wireworks whisky (which is delicious).https://www.whitepeakdistillery.co.uk/product/cask...
We have a bottle, not opened yet though.
I finally got myself a bottle of the "new receipe" Mount Gay XO recently - I say new recipe but it's been a good few years now.
I have to say - I don't think it's as good as the original. It's a bit rougher, and bit more treacle-y. So to my mind you can pick up the increased proportion of aged rum, but also it seems like it has an increased proportion of younger rum as well - I can't recall what it was that they chaged, other than that they were repositioning it as more premium as it overlapped too much with Black Barrel (which I wasn't a fan of vs either Eclipse or XO). It's just not as balanced for me. This is a real shame as it was my go to rum for years.
