It seems that we are being asked to foot the bill for increased footballers wages:-

I'm thinking of switching to freeview. Anybody here done this?

I switched to Freesat about 2 yrs ago, you are able to use the dish and cables from sky, just swap boxes.

Don't miss Sky at all, and will do my best never to return.

It's a shame Sky don't have a football only channel like they do for F1. However I suspect it wouldn't provide enough income to support their bill to the FA so non football fans will be forced to pay extra if they chose to keep Sky.

my contract is up in April and I'm done with all live TV. I only ever had Sky for the sport. With the emergence of BT I have to pay even more. In my circle of friends I'm the only one who watches sport. Was mainly a father son activity.

looking forward to spending that 100+ a month on a new hobbie .

They need extra money to fund their new motoring program... and the inevitable legal costs which will follow! smile

I know what you are all getting at but you still an ISP, some form of TV and perhaps landline...

I looked at binning Virgin but it seemed the main cost was all the packages so I just slimmed that back and kept the superfast broadband.

My daughter gets married in a fortnight. In order to finance this, something, or rather some things, had to go. My plan was to dump the full Sky package (less HD) for Freeview and BT sports - I'm a big rugby fan.

Now some 10 months into the package change I'm well satisfied. I've got Netflix for no extra charge in the last couple of wards.

I've dropped from over £55pcm to £15, plus an occasional Now TV day pass for GPs, probably 5 or 6 this season. Much to my surprise, I watch more TV now, helped by Netflix and rugby.

Would I go for just Freeview only? I enjoy my rugby a bit too much.

I still buy DVDs, as I always did, and have bought the box set of Game of Thrones and a couple of others.

I've just checked, and on my BT recorder I have less than 45% space left. I probably won't watch all that's on there, probably not half, so what's the point of Sky?

I've had two friends who have also dumped Sky (irritatingly as one I watched F1 with him) since me, and one is on BT and the other completely Freeview. Both happy with their choice.

Its all becoming very pricy, and it doesnt help how they all bundle everything (Phone, internet, tv).

What really bugs me is the fact that I've got to pay line rental and a phone tariff when I haven't even got a house phone.

Why not offer just TV and BB?! It's a right scam.

Virgin fibre don't require you to have a phone line (and line rental) in order to provide broadband.

I wouldn't have Sky or Virgin TV were it not for my love of football. Unfortunately if I want to watch plenty of live football, I have no choice but to fork out huge sums.

I have Sky for historical reasons. I watch the F1, Quest, Discovery Channel, National Geo, and Dave mostly.

Broadband with Virgin and telly with Sky is probably not the cheapest option, but Virgin's fibre broadband is ace. I get a solid 80+MBPS from their "up to 120MBPS" service and 13MBPS on the uplink too.

Mostly I stay with Sky for the F1 and the fact that the box "just works" for planning, scheduling and recording.

I subscribe to Sky for the sports channels. Sky has a monopoly over live cricket, so as a life-long lover of the game I resent the fact that if I want to watch my favourite sport, I have no realistic option but to pay the ever-escalating prices they demand.

I know I should tell them to stuff it, but it's the Ashes again this summer, so......

Last time I tried to drop the phone line they couldn't offer a package deal for just BB and TV so it actually works out cheaper to have a phone, that I never use

Is it SUperleague you watch?

I have Sky because of Sky Atlantic really...and because the box is the best box/system I've seen...also, my adsl is st.
Now if this superfastuk thing happens and my cabinet gets upgraded to fibre this spring, as the website says, BT infinity and the stuff I can get through that will be a viable alternative.
