No Pics I'm afraid (will take next time up up North)

But had a Fish (as in Fish'n chips minus the chips) in a Breadcake from place called the Wetherby Whaler in Wakefield (actually had 2 of them)

Fish was lovely Haddock, batter was really crispy, combined with a soft floury breadcake, and loads of salt and vinegar. Was definitely a take away as sat and ate them outside the take-away part of the restaurant on benches more suited to summer - eating them out of the wrapping paper lick With chip shop curry sauce on the fish as well licklick

All washed down with a can of Dandelion and Burdock.

Had this for dinner just before hopping onto the M1 to drive back down to London f. Was a V happy/full bunny !!

Terribly, for someone in their 30's, I'm hungover as fk today. Large pizza, chicken steak burger, and peri peri wings en route. I hope they hit the spot!

There's a choice of (IMO) much finer fish 'oils within a few miles of this and closer to the M1 than the Whaler - may I be as bold as to suggest you try the following if you're back up this way again:

Kingfisher (further along Denby Dale Road, just a few hundred yards after J39 of M1

Queens Drive Fisheries (about 500 yards from J40 of the M1)

If you're so inclined, Caseys is in Ossett too (J40 of the M1), I believe it has been linked on here before as it's home to the 'Whale Challenge'

http://www.foodchallenges.com/challenges/caseys-32...

Of the 4, Queens Drive at J40 would be my choice for the best fish & nerks in that neck of the woods.

Hi Tony - had Kingfishers previous time back up North (friend lives nearby) got to admit Wetherby Whaler fish was far nicer than what I had from there.

Will be back up probably later this week due to poorly dad/parents living in Wakey. My parents prefer the Mermaid over in Morley these days.

I'll take a gander Queens Drive Fisheries. - Caseys I've seen some of the Challenge videos - I like my food but they are a bit mental !!

cheers

I think there is an element of 'luck of the draw' at most places (time of day, staff on shift etc.) - Mermaid used to be my favourite when working in Dewsbury but it's too tricky to get to now for me. I tend to move around from place to place, whenever I seem to settle on one you get a poor serving so I go back and try one of the previous haunts again and they are fine for 6 months or so and then the same thing happens.

Barracuda in Ossett is usually pretty reliable.
Sea Urchin in Ossett can be the best of the lot but is too inconsistent.
Kev's in Eastmoor wins the local awards frequently.

Personal choice though obviously, I am not a fan of the Whaler at all but others swear by it and won't go anywhere else.

Yeah - growing up - Kev’s in Stanley was our go to, as well as Annie’s on
Leeds Road in Outwood - but as you say quality can vary/move around.

Visiting Glasgow, surely the thread Mecca.
Had a Pizza, from Little Italy on Byers Road. It looked and tasted fantastic, as did the natta cakes afterwards.

No Photo as clearly a thread fail.
