Are the waiters / waitresses still rude to customers? That was part of the experience and appeal.
Not really rude. More abrupt than anything. Gave us a good laugh because it's not something we've ever really come across before!

If you would like good Chinese with abrasive staff, there is a place called Dragon Castle in Elephant and Castle which does fantastic dim sum during the day and where the waiters are extremely grumpy and hate all of their customers.

The squid is particularly good.
I used to go there years and years ago if it's the one at the top of Walworth Rd.

Ha ha, yes, ‘abrupt’ is a better term. Also ‘blunt’.

All part of their culture though (traditional Chinese rather than ‘westernised’ Chinese).

The megabox above looks great.

Salad in a separate box surely? Who wants warm salad?

Other than that, epic!

possibly a bit weird, but i love the semi cooked cabbage etc as it has rested against the cooked meat on the way home in its snug styrofoam home.

The strips never taste the same as the meat peices IMO. The coating seems completely different.

Yeh I agree with you. I'm not much of a fan of chicken on the bone though (apart from hot wings of course!)

The seasoning is different there is a distinct aniseed taste on the strips that you don’t get on the pieces

I find the strips far saltier than the pieces.

Venus supermarket is good but the lamb isn't spiced anything like a Lebanese shawarma is, although the kofte is very good.

There is a place further up the road called shawarma king or something along them lines but I've not tried it yet.
I was in the area recently so decided to check out King of Shawarma.

Menu

I went for a number 7 with the mixed shawarma option

The meat had very little spice, very similar to the donner from Venus but the quality isn’t as good. Not bad for a fiver but on par with the generic shawarma places in Harehills.
