No offence but what do you expect, you ordered the most “anglicised” and common dishes that are likely pre-made in massive batches or even mostly bought in.
I bet that if you go for the more obscure items on the menu then they’ll actually have to cook them from scratch!
Ah, right, it was my own fault for ordering what I fancied at the time.I bet that if you go for the more obscure items on the menu then they’ll actually have to cook them from scratch!

...which clearly wasn't 'Chinese'........ No-one in China eats any of that st (although proper satay can be wonderful, but I've yet to see it served in China). Don't be surprised when you order such stuff, typically cooked by SE Asians/East Europeans/etc (rarely actually from China), who know nothing about what it is, or what it's meant to turn out like, when it turns out it tastes like st.had ham said:

My missus thinks English Chinese takeout is Thai takeout, as that's what they call it in Sweden. It's all the same wherever you go in Europe at a certain price point but you can get some good places doing these "st" dishes we like, chicken balls etc... This is the dirty takeout thread, probs best to leave the snobbery at the door...
No 'snoberry' here fella. It's all good/dirty. I'm not going to address the fact that your missus thinks English Chinese takeout is Thai takeout (I have no idea what that could even mean!), as that's what they call it in Sweden (she's Swedish I guess - unlucky, takeaway food there is generally appalling). I'm quite sure that a definition of 'Dirty' would encompass a Swede calling a Chinese takeaway, in England, or even in Sweden, a Thai, when the stuff you eventually get doesn't taste remotely like any of the above (or what a Swede, or Brit, or indeed a Thai, would hope it should taste like).
I'm impressed! By you both!
No judgement here either - you're free to order whatever dish you like!
My point was, at a cheap Chinese takeaway, chicken balls in sweet & sour sauce are more likely to be bought in in massive ready-made tubs of frozen balls and neon orange sauce, and therefore probably a bit crap.
Whereas if your ordered some weird pig tripe & chicken feet dishes, chances are it would be cooked fresh on the premises. Would probably still be quite horrible tasting though :hehe;

The average Chinese takeaway is one massive freezer and a bunch of deep friers.My point was, at a cheap Chinese takeaway, chicken balls in sweet & sour sauce are more likely to be bought in in massive ready-made tubs of frozen balls and neon orange sauce, and therefore probably a bit crap.
When you're paying less than a fiver for a load of meat products, don't expect freshness or quality.

My point was that it is all generic. Anyway I am not gonna continue cluttering up the thread with words, pics to follow. I never consider anything else but sweet and sour chicken balls or Hong Kong Style with rice and or chips, perhaps the odd chicken and mushroom curry.
The rest of the menu is never even considered, do people really eat Egg Fu Yung?!
Perfection on a plate -
Love Chicken Fu Yung, egg fried rice, chips and curry sauce when bladdered. Usually get a rollicking the next morning from the wife having left half of it on the breakfast room table ...... The rest of the menu is never even considered, do people really eat Egg Fu Yung?!

Train cancellations and torrential rain has altered tonight to San Miguel and whatever is in the freezer! When it rains, it pours... quite literally!
