This would seal it for me. Having spent lots of time in South Africa where granted labour is cheap being used to hand cut proper chips in just about everywhere bar KFC and McDonalds it annoys me in the U.K. that frozen fries and oven chips are everywhere
A lot of fish and chip shops cut their own.vaud said:

Can I just say that I love this thread, but having been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year (although I'm marginal), my days of dirty takeaways may be over.
Just the occasional cod 'n chips now. Easy on the chips.
Keep up the good work!
I imagine there are a lot of silent voyeurs on this thread, much like you (and me) living vicariously through the likes of eski boy. Just the occasional cod 'n chips now. Easy on the chips.
Keep up the good work!

Takeaway carves up the elephant leg and then fries it off in a pan with chilli sauce and sometimes chucks in some chillies. At least that’s how I’ve seen it being done
Yeah I’ve seen it literally done in a wok....Onions, peppers, mushrooms, chilli, garlic, doner meat all fried together and then pour in the sauce and coat it before serving

Ended up miles away in an unknown area with work whilst hungry recently and the guy carved off the chicken, chopped it all up and sent it through the pizza oven! It actually wasnt that bad, had nice crispy bits in there, I'd never seen it done before (and might not again )
thats a little unusual.. why would you carve up something that's being cooked on a sideways grill... to only then heat it up on something that has a grrill ontop? unless you maybe want to double/treble up on the crispyness as there's greater surface area with it being chopped off the doner.ambuletz said:
