for anyone interested ASDA are selling 70cl Haig Club for £16.
I have heard haig club is actually really nice, I have always dismissed it. Is it any good?
it is terrible terrible whisky, genuinely foul as piss but at the same time dull as weedy and reedy as a snake's fart. It coasts on advertising, marketing and brand association, and even given that, it has dropped and dropped in realistic selling price from over £50 (fifty fking quid this is!) to ASDA special offer price. This isn't even the sttest one they do - they make a thing called Clubman, which even they admit is really only for mixing.... it is even sold as a mixing whisky. Anyone saying this st is good, is someone not worth asking ever again about whisky and i'd even go as far as to say you should sever all ties with this person. Cut them off, you don't need that in your life.
It’ll be the Haig Clubman that they’ll be selling for £16.

The Haig Club I actually have no issue in drinking, it’s obviously become fashionable for whiskey snobs to slate it (see above) but it’s far from the worst.

if not liking an over-marketed over-priced over-hyped and just st tasting product makes me a snob then I'll wear that hat with pride. You drink what you want; i care not.

Really liking this one, but have not found anything to follow up with after it's empty.
I like subtle but very characterful coastal Whiskies I think.
Suggestions are very much welcome.

I've got a bottle of that sitting in the cupboard waiting to be opened, which will probably be next month. Glad to hear it is good!

Have you tried Kilkerran? It's a slightly smoky Campbeltown malt which is the sister distillery to Springbank. Very high quality and very nice indeed.

Another vote for Kilkerran here, one of my favourites, very reasonably priced too....

Hi all

Sorry in advance, not sure why you now have broken necks.

Annual whisky festival fringe in Edinburgh on Friday. Something crazy like 300 different whisky's to pick from.
Thanks for the sore neck... wink Looks great, I must go one year.

It was announced on FB that the winning whisky was the Tomatin 17 PX single cask, so, being a marketeers dream, I had to buy one. biggrin Sold out now though.

I agree with 2CV but I am not quite so eloquent. Any beverage associated with sport or sportspeople is to be avoided.
Strong summary. I will stick with my normal whisky.

The people who have said it is nice are not whisky drinkers, to be honest, so thought as much.
Looks like it's in a perfume bottle.

Would rather drink from a perfume bottle.

Nasty.

Agreed. A well meaning customer gave my eldest son a bottle as a tip for a job he had done for him. He does not like whisky, per se, so he gave it to me . Horrible stuff., most expensive drain cleaner I've ever used. Dire.
The second most expensive drain cleaner was Jack Daniels, tasted of soap. Apparently , it happens now and again, according to someone in the trade who informed me such.

Clynelish and Ledaig are both worth a go if the smack of tar and salt in your dram adds to your enjoyment - it does for me.

Clynelish 14 is my staple drink! Salty and oily, I like it like that. Need to explore more exotic bottlings.

Have not found a Ledaig that sits well with me yet - If there's a must try please shout.

Single casks after approximately 2004-2005 can often be very nice. The LMDW one with the feather on it is a cracker, but £180 a bottle in auction sadly. The 1971-1974 bottles are also often stunning, but price to match.

https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/auctions/142_...

This one also won Malt Maniacs bested peated in the premium class a year or two back, and is reasonable value considering most whisky these days. Have a bottle, but not had a chance to try it yet.

Postie has been again. I must admit that I have absolutely no intention of opening this, I bought it mainly because I loved the way it looked and thought it would look nice in my cabinet. getmecoatredface That and the donation to charity. smile I'm going to shift a couple of NAS Macallans at auction (at less than RRP no doubt) to make more space.

I've got the same bottle (318). I'll be opening it at some point, but I'm in no rush.

A bit disappointed with this, seeing as it's touching on £80, the 15yr old sherry cask I had a few years ago was so much better.
