Discussion
Opened a bottle of this last night, after it had sat on the shelf at home for over a year (maybe even two)..it came to hand when I was looking for something different to follow up a very good Port Charlottte..
For something picked up for about 25 euros in a French supermarket, I couldn't really complain, but it's actually pretty good - not overly complex due to its age, a good body, nicely sherried, and something I could happily sit and drink more of..

Mean, that's just mean!!!
So what are your thoughts on it? Taste, depth, nose? Just working my way through a bottle of Ardbeg AnOa, it's a very pleasant dram, sweeter than I was expecting, nice peat and smoke balance, not as long a finish as say the 10year old, but a nice depth and flavour combination, I can see why they called it AnOa it would be easy to have two or three drams!!
A touch of smoke, but the over riding taste is of apples! Long finish, and actually opens up a bit with a tiny drop of water. Not your typical Aberlour and no sherry at all. Slightly salty - like you’d get from a Glenglassaugh.

Heads up
Glen Scotia Double Cask (American Oak and PX) Bottled at ABV 46%
I'm not normally a fan of non age statement whisky but this is an absolute steal at £25.60 at M&S. A really good introduction to Cambeltown malt

I too picked a bottle up from Marks not long ago, very nice stuff, not too sure it has the oily texture and biscuity flavours I would associate with a typical Campbeltown. I certainly wouldn't be able to identify it in a blind tasting anyway. Nice stuff nonetheless...Glen Scotia Double Cask (American Oak and PX) Bottled at ABV 46%

Just picked up Hudson Baby Bourbon and Hudson Manhattan Rye Whiskey for £19/each (usually £30/each) at one of my local Waitrose's(Bracknell).
End of line clear out.
Thought I'd share in case others want/can benefit.
Popped into Wallingford Waitrose on the way home. Still 28 quid there End of line clear out.

I've cracked open the Rye, and it's actually pretty good. Very sweet initially, followed by very bitter. Quite an interesting dram.

Its nice to see someone else who has some Scapa, ive an off the shelf Asda Scapa and a limited edition Scapa that I picked up in Orkney a few years back
I try to keep a bottle available, Skiren is decent for the price but I'm sad my 16 year old can't be replaced and there's very little left.Joat said:

I've got the Sauternes and Port Cask finishes both fantastic, but I'm yet to get hold of the Amarone. Let us know how you get on with it.whoami said:

The Amarone is a cracker. I much prefer it to either the Port or Sauternes finishes.NRS said:
How was it? I've enjoyed some of the earlier batches.
Delightful! Once it has stood for a few minutes, and the initial 'spirity' kick had subsided the flavour was immense. I added just a couple of drops of water to take the edge off, and it really opened up.
I was expecting it to be harsh due to the strength, but it wasn't at all. Though my only reference of anything remotely similar is Old Grandad 114 bourbon!
