Such a great dram, and unavailable anywhere as far as I can tell. I have three unopened bottles in my stash, which I'm saving for a rainy day...

One other which I'm enjoying more and more is the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12. My sweet tooth again, but it's lovely stuff. lick
Podie managed to track a couple of bottles down about 4mths ago, he's put one as aside for me in a 'safe place' which he can't find so I had to take his bottle.

Have you found anything similar?

No, nothing. I even contacted Benriach through FB (there's desperation for you!) to see if they had any releases, or planned releases that were similar, but got no reply sadly. I can't find many (any?) whiskies that are matured in bourbon casks, then finished in virgin oak casks, that are of a similar age. That's before you take into account that another distiller's new make spirit is unlikely to be similar to start with. Any ideas welcomed!

Drunk me seems to have ordered myself a bottle of Oban 14 after it popped up in a TV show late one night. Any good?

Enjoyed a Glen Moray tasting evening last week, a real revelation. Known as a cheap brand the quality was superb and at roughly £25 a bottle for their classic range it's cheap enough to do your own sampling!

The Sherry, Port and Chardonnay casks are exactly the same liquor as the Elgin Classic-only they spend the last two years in their cask (fresh filled) of choice. The master distiller and his wife made for a very entertaining evening and yes, we did sample multiples of each one!

Did you manage to try the 1994 sherry cask? Cracking dram! I haven't had a lot of them, but certainly one of the best value companies out there at the moment. The bottle your own was just £50 in May, which considering the cost of many other distilleries is decent. They have a great peated bottling coming out soon too (was supposed to be in May, but the French HQ made a mess of the labelling I think it was).

They're in this video for the Spirit of Speyside: Distilled! and will do a masterclass there.

Will anyone else be in Elgin for the Distiled! festival? I'll be over the weekend before, and will drop by Clydeside distillery, head down to Springbank and do the warehouse tasting and the next day then do the distilleries tour. Some family and friends before heading to Speyside for the festival and have to do some tours. Not booked any yet.

Balvenie is sold out as expected. Might do something like Aberlour or Glenfiddich as not done them yet and easy to get to. Macallan would be cool to see the new distillery too. Glen Moray I will likely tour next June but will maybe drop by to see their "bottle your own". Benriach will be releasing a 20yo Marsala Hogshead bottling for their 100th anniversary then, so might try and get that. I'll attend "5 decades" cask samples from Benromach masterclass, which for £15 (plus entry to main festival in addition) is decent value.

Heading up to Speyside in September, but staying over a long weekend which limits which distilleries to visit unfortunately. We've got tours booked at Glenfiddich ('Deconstructed' tour), Macallan (just the bog standard tour - that's all they do, but looking forward to seeing the new place), Cragganmore ('The Range' tour, which includes some food pairing) and Glenfarclas ('Connoisseurs Tour'), and I can't wait. biggrin Staying at the Mash Tun in Aberlour again, which is excellent.

Sounds a great trip you have planned, biggrin

I was wondering about the "deconstructed" tour too. I'd thought about the Pioneer one, but found out it is Glenfiddich original, 12, 15 (cask strenght) 21, 26, Project xx (maybe switched with Fire and Cane now?) and 30yo with finger food. Plus the bottle your own 20cl single cask. But you don't taste the single casks. Since I've tasted most of them before then not sure it's worth it with other possibilities. I'll be on my own so Cragganmore is a bit difficult to get to/ more expensive in a taxi by myself. So since I still have distilleries to visit on the bus links thought I'd do them this time. I'm also checking if I can drop by GlenAllachie for a short unofficial visit.

Thanks, hope so! The Pioneer tour was maybe that bit too long for us, not to mention more expensive. Enjoy your trip, and report back please. thumbup

Aberlour have now 'unveiled' the new Casg Annamh, even though it was actually available (albeit not that readily) a few months ago. Still not showing on their own website though, nor in stock at any of the big online retailers. Odd.

Picked this up at Tesco £35.00, I'm pleasantly suprised at how good it is.

Bought for a little trip away, I’m a huge fan of their Nikka’s regular offerings but this 50+ abv is delicious.

Hi all

Appreciate this is “show your whisky” , but I’ve just came back from the new Macallan distillery. I’ll watch my P&Q’s here - but how disappointing indeed.

Whilst our tour guide was fantastic , I was expecting a lot greater. You could clearly see that Macallan had spunked £140million (£40million over budget) on iPad’s, lights and some shinny 3D models for the tour to play with, but the whole thing felt like a sausage chain - in, out and move on.

Whilst we only paid £12 per person, 3 x 12yr old and “rare cask” to taste at the end doesn’t cut it for me Macallan. Oh and wanting £675 quid a NIP for a mac40 is taking the absolute piss (£17,500 for a bottle aye)....
