It happens a lot. Either there is something properly dodgy going on for money laundering or something, or people order from other countries cannot get delivery from some shops, so have to bid more in auction that does deliver to their country. You also sometimes see a bottle that might be double the price of the same bottles in the same auction for some reason.
Thanks for the info - I'm new to this whisky auction lark. I'm watching a few bottles, hoping for a bargain, but it seems there are very few (or no) bargains out there.

I didn't get anything last night, and looks like tonight will also be nothing. It's probably a good thing after my Glenugie/Caperdonich/Tormore/Braeval shopping spree from Chivas. In addition next week we get a single cask Chichibu Norway-only release, so it's going to be dry pasta, and perhaps beans on toast as a treat, for the next month!

You can get the odd bargain, but for the most part you need to work hard for it, and it's less easy that it was. Anything that is single cask dark sherry is for example almost always £180 plus. Even a year ago a lot of the less popular distilleries might have been under £100. Same goes for stuff with good ratings on WB - will be a lot more expensive.

One that could be a bargain depending how you look at it is Glenallachie. Their 50th anniversary casks were priced too high, so almost 50% off compared to retail. Depends if you count it as worth that though! I got a Cadenheads bottle of theirs for £55 recently, which had a price label of £85 still on it, biggrin Ben Nevis is pretty good value for non-OB single casks, but not sure how it compares to rrp.

Well, that's my Macallan sold. I got £1700 in the end, which isn't a bad return for something I only owned for a week. Sold it via FB to a chap ten miles away, so no worries about posting either. I do think if the early bottles hadn't appeared on WH it would have maybe sold for above £2k, but I musn't complain. The next auctions will be interesting!

When's the next ballot? hehe
I am new to this, how do I sign up to be considered in the ballot?

Thanks

I'm in two minds whether to or not. £50 is nigh on Glendronach 15 money. Lidl's Christmas special is a 23yo at £39.99. Both Lidl's and Aldi's are 40% abv.

But then again, Whisky Exchange are doing a 'Christmas Malt' this year that is a 17yo bottled at 58.7% abv for £74.95. More ££ but supposedly a great dram. FB review here (you need to be a member of the whisky adventures group to view):

What do do, what to do...

In other news, I've just bought another NAS Macallan that I have no intention of drinking. nuts

Sign up to their mailing list, then you'll be notified and offered the chance to apply (when/if they release another bottling by ballot).

Thanks, I had already signed up to their mailing list, didn’t know if there was some secret handshake circle I had to join as well smile

Thanks for confirming!

Picked up these yesterday. First time they're out here. Will be opening this weekend. 25yo is also available but I have to stop buying at some point! Got the special release this Thursday so if it goes well that's another huge amount blown!

As promised, some quick feedback on the Glendronach 15 Revival after our whisky tasting/meal I attended in the Fatherland.

Very very nice indeed, so much so, that I'm glad I took out a dram I promised krallicious before letting the Germans loose on it. It got hammered and is now dead.

It's lovely, so much so I believe my Father Christmas list will be getting an addition.

Me? No, just a rare cask batch 2. The numbered batches sell out in minutes when they become available, so should fetch me a little profit at auction I think. Bought for £225, so I doubt very much I'll lose on it.

Nice little profit there, twos won't fetch that much, it would be nice though! Apparently there were 300,000 bottles of edition four, yet they still fetch more than the original price. Crazy stuff! Still, it all helps fund bottles to drink eh!? biggrin
