Newcomer to the thread here.....

In an attempt to try and 'get into' whisky after a few half arsed attempts to drink Bells etc. usually with cola, I've decided to have a proper go. I visited the Whisky Shop in York and asked the helpful gentlemen to give my mrs a starter kit of 4-5 miniatures for her to wrap up for me a Christmas gift. I've also bought a tasting glass and a beginners guide on Amazon.

I didn't use to like Gin when my only exposure to it was Gordons/Beefeater etc. so hopefully this will go the same way!

Good luck with the tasting! Just remember, whatever works for your taste is what is best!

Looks like a good tasting Leigh! I guess it was pretty packed in town?

Did anyone else get the Costco screw up? 18yo Laphroaig for £70 - decent price so asked my sister-in-law to grab a couple. They arrived yesterday, and then got a bit of a surprise... white wooden box... that's the 25yo! From what I understand they never got the 18yo, so swapped with an "equivalent or better" to 25yo for everyone! So we got the 2 for £140!

Christ you’ve done well there, the 18yo at £70 already had a 1 missing off the front of the price, now they’ve supplied the 25yo it’s now missing a 3 off the front.

wrapping pressies last night so had a few traditional drops... got this from a mate for my birthday so decided to give it a go.

quite sweet and not as fierce as the name might suggest! I did google the price and was surprised, felt on the high side for what it was. However a very appreciated gift!

Thanks, these are what I have.

Sorry about the poor pic, I’ll get a better one later.

Good spread of the different whisky flavours there. There will be something you like among them if not all of them.

You've done well there, no Scotch for me this year but my mum thought I could do with a Christmas jumper...it actually brought a smile to my Grinch like face too laugh

You have had an absolute touch there. £700 'worth' of whisky for £140

New to the thread. Wouldn't call myself a connoisseur, but I drink whisky more often than any other alcohol so definitely a fan.

Current favourite is Ardbeg (I'm an Islay man). Got 2 bottles of that, a bottle of monkey shoulder, a bottle and a half of talisker and a bottle of smokehead for Christmas so well chuffed.

Is Snow Phoenix still a liked Whisky by those who know? I have a bottle or two sitting around that I should really be drinking.. I moved over to rum for a while so I drink Pussers gun powder proof at the mo (Wow!). I need to thin out my collection but I don't know if I should keep the Snow Phoenix for my birthday?
Happy new year

Definitely one to save for a special occasion. It's fetching between £600-700 retail and the last bottle I saw at auction was around £300. I have a bottle and will be saving it for a few years before I drink it.
