I've made my own gas conversion for my Uuni. Works a treat and better than faffing with pellets.

Any details on what you did?

Arrived but not had a chance to try it yet - my dad offered a spare cylinder but it'll need a refill first.

Looks nicely made, came with hose and regulator so the all-up cost isn't that much more than the bits I was going to need for a DIY effort.

I find the pellets fine but hoping this will reduce the amount of attention and managing it needs - I don't always have someone I trust to keep an eye on the hopper!

I've just cooked for 15 people, some had 2 pizzas. I reckon about £2's worth of materials per pizza, not including oven cost. Cheap dinner!

Is this going into an uuni 3 or an earlier model. As you say it doesn’t take much for the temp to go off if you’re not monitoring the hopper. Easily done if your prepping the next pizzas.

Using my Pation Gas cylinder ( for the BBQ), I got a new reducer valve, a section of low pressure hose and a gar burner unit. Then I removed the wood chip burner unit from the back of the uuni and replaced it with the gas burner, which was mated to a backing plate to hold it in place.

Like this.....

Just banged out a couple of lunch pizzas using the Uuni 3 on gas. It's pretty good, clean tasting not much hassle except it did blow out a few times in the high winds today! You also use it with the door off which is great.

Highly recommended, especially if you already have a patio gas cylinder so the outlay isn't huge.

Thanks for this. I’m very tempted to do similar I’m not convinced with regard to the safety of using pellets as a cooking fuel source. The “Balcas” pellets for example state they used wood dust from saw mills. Presumably that could include soft woods and just about anything else.

Does the Uuni gas attachment work on the 2S?

I've not looked into the Uuni supplied gas conversion as I have done my own, so cannot comment about what it fits.

regarding the pellets, I was using the pellets I got from the Plumb Centre. They are the cheapest you can buy in the UK and as fas as I know, safe to cook with.

there is a good facebook group - 'Uuni Community' thats great for info about it all.

B&M bargains do wood pellets as cat litter. It is 30litre for £5.59. Equivalent products are 17Kg. 32p a Kg.

Plumb Centre is 40p a kg.

I had my first test with the Uuni 3 gas burner on Saturday.

Worked like a charm, got extremely hot (probably a bit too hot) but very easy to regulate with the dial, will just take a bit of trial and error to find the right level.

Can't see myself going back to pellets, I doubt anyone could tell the difference in taste and just so much easier to manage. Especially as you cook with the door off so you can see exactly how the pizza is cooking.

Really looking forward to the summer now, going to be using my Uuni a lot more.

Yeah, I love mine. The pellets work fine but it's hard work if you're making and cooking the pizzas in different places - constantly dashing back to check pellets and shove some more in. Lighting the gas and just walking away for 15 mins or so while it warms up is great. Cooking with the door off makes life much easier too.

Just buy a big cast iron frying pan or pancake skillet. Will do the same thing for a lot less money.

I've done something similar with a normal frying pan and finished under the grille

That's what I do. Just interested if anyone had used one as this is a completely stove top option which is being questioned on another forum.

Just ordered this (the stainless 'full kit'):

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aquaforno-ii-th...

Should arrive in July - so just about enough time to ensure the better half doesn't remove my testes when it arrives. Always easier to ask forgiveness than permission...

Hoping it'll replace my weber kettle, and my Pro-Q smoker, and add the capability for proper pizza - here's hoping.

they only say cook with door off for safety reasons, just in case the flame goes out there isn't a gas build up.. no reason why you can't have the door on / partly on...
