I need to replace my trusty and well beaten Cayenne S, which I have 200,000Km on and which has endured Canadian winters, offroading in deserts, towing heavy loads for enormous distances and three Great Danes as frequent passengers. It has a lot of road rash these days.

It is hard to judge the next gen car,but the little I do know suggests that the Turbo will have the twin-turbo V8 from the new Panamera.
Still curious about the size. The recently announced VW Atlas and the Bentayga are to my knowledge on a common platform, so I would think the new Cayenne would also be there..i.e. bigger than the current model. This would also differentiate it more from the Macan.

Does anyone have any info on the next gen vehicle??

Hi,

No info as of yet apart from I expect it will not differ too much in styling from current Cayenne. I think focus will be on tech i.e infotainment systems and a bigger push towards next gen Hybrid systems. Possibly the 4.0 V8d from the SQ7 with another 15-20hp. PDK introduction? Macan handling? I'm also very interested / excited to hear any further updates smile

I think you're correct about the platform and I think we're going to see it in 2017. Some dealers have been saying 2018 but possibly only to keep the current model sales alive.

The 4.2 V8 S up until 2015 when they took it off production to add the 'Ad-blue' was an awesome piece of kit.
When they brought it back to market a few months later, they'd done something to it to quieten it down. Before it sounded like a V8 Range Rover with a sport exhaust but after it was very muted.

Shame!

Agree.

Heard from a friend that's been in the NEW Panamera Hybrid and that apparently sounds mega!

Can't be too long before this thing breaks cover.

If the dealers are right about it hitting the roads in spring 2018, then it's world premiere should be either Tokyo at the end of October, or the LA Auto show first week in December (where the Macan was revealed).

Yes absolutely, really looking forward to seeing it.

New new 4 litre twin turbo V8 diesel in the Panamera produces something like 420bhp now over the 385bhp in the old one which I have in mine.

850 nm of torque!

I just hope its not taking a large price hike...

Worried about the price hike too, any decent Pan is over £100,000 now and that's too rich for a depreciating daily.

7 seats could be useful but I think any bigger than now would impact its B road capabilities?

Yes, it'll be more of a monster than it is already with that engine in it.

It'll look like the Panamera inside too from what I remember of the spy shots, but i hope they remove the rather pointless feature of having to adjust the central air vents through a bloody sub menu on the touch screen. Well dangerous.

I'm also waiting to see how long it's going to be too. The present one is 4855mm and just fits in my garage with about 10mm to spare. Any longer and it'll be a no-go.

I think it has to be bigger to distinguish itself from the Macan.

Panamera interior is a given I think...although having driven one I am not sure I prefer the "touch screen" buttons rather than actual buttons. Overall it was fantastic though and the grunt of the 4S Diesel was ridiculous.

What will be interesting is how they price the hybrid...it's priced vary aggressively on the Panamera compared to the previous gen. I looked at the Hybrid closely when we bought our S Diesel. Didn't make sense on current car.

I don't think the broad price rise will be that bad...it's a volume product and has a lot of competition.

Be interesting to see how it's packaged...current car has generous rear space compared to the competition i.e. My old X5 but slightly smaller boot. They share the Q7 platform so 7 seats in theory are a possibility but that would mean a much less sloping/sporty rear.

It also has to slot handily with with Panamera Sport Turismo and it will be interesting how they price.

I looked at current between then present Cayenne Turbo S and the Panamera Turbo Gran Turismo and the base price of the Pana was about 25% higher than the current Cayenne. (Canadian prices)..

I think I read somewhere that it is supposed to be about 200kg lighter than the current one .... and that it is likely they will produce a Turbo S E-Hybrid or whatever it is called 680hp version

Could be a great car for people who need to tow stuff etc

I was told yesterday by my OPC that the latest ETA they havve for cars hitting the road is mid to end of next year which has been put back. If that's the case I would think Geneva or given it's a 4x4 Detroit in early 2018 are the most likely dates for a launch.

I can think of only two possible reasons your OPC said that:

They are trying to sustain sales of the present model as long as they possibly can....

Or, VAG are having 'real' difficulties getting the NOx within limits on their diesel engines and keeping them reliable at the same time.

It can't be much else. I know Porsche have to get this right - it's a big earner for them, but they don't usually take this long bringing new models out, it's already been put back once.

The platform is there (Q7, Bentayga, Touareg - MLB evo), the interior is sorted (Panamera based), the styling must already have been signed off and easily knocked out using the latest CAD and presses. So what else....? The new production line in Slovakia not ready....?

Who knows, but my mate ordered a new Audi Q5 2.0 litre diesel last year, he was told it left Mexico in March and was on it's way to Germany. Germany? He lives in England...!

Apparently all new Q5s go to Germany first. Why? Dunno. But he was told he'd get his car last week in April. That's gone - no Q5. Now it's supposed to be last week in May.

I smell a rat.......

It's definitely not that...OPC knows I am not in the market for one....I have a two month old Diesel S sitting on my drive! It came up in conversation when I was asking about another car. The comment was about the trouble they're having getting allocations of cars across the range....they obviously rely heavily on Cayenne and Macan for volume. When production was shifting to the new Panamera they had no new Panamera's to sell for over six months which apparently is what's expected to happen with the Cayenne.

Might have been delayed because they're still selling the new ones very well? I ordered mine in October last year, it arrived at the dealer in the middle of Feb....a four month wait indicates order books are still decent. I'd say your guess about the new factory in Bratislava not being ready is the cause/or at least moving production....there were a lot of delays to Cayman production at the beginning of the year because of moving factories.

I imagine the Q5 issue is all down to logisitics....it's probably cheaper for one massive boat to transport the ships to Europe with only one stop in Europe and then moved on to final destination via smaller ships as necessary. They do exactly the same with container ships... they use "Feeders" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feeder_ship iN Europe to distribute containers which come from Chine on much bigger vessels.

We must be getting close to an autumn reveal.

I think it's gonna be a good 7-8cm longer than the present model. The side glass area has been reduced too.

Well that's drastically different! I wonder if they're going to move away from diesel completely like Volvo have announced today (by 2019).

Hybrid for me next I think...

Well Diesel is going to be getting a lot cheaper at the pumps at this rate and having just bought a Cayenne (Euro 6 compliant I may add) I won't be selling for a while! What it's going to be worth in a two or three years time is another matter....
