Jamie bloody Oliver, fking hypocrite. How many of your restaurants, Jamie, have failed to meet, what are pretty basic hygiene standards? His restaurants get the worst reviews due to serving basic bland dishes sold at premium prices.
What do bland dishes have to do with hygiene?Do you have a cite for your poor hygiene claims?

Best burger I've had was the Elvis, from Caesar's in Leatherhead, Surrey.
Pretty much 1lb of meat, probably the same again of cheese and half again in chips and coleslaw. I haven't been for a several years now, but from memory it was about £15-16 plus a drink, but worth every penny.
I keep meaning to pop down to the Surrey Hills this month, I'll put this on the agenda Pretty much 1lb of meat, probably the same again of cheese and half again in chips and coleslaw. I haven't been for a several years now, but from memory it was about £15-16 plus a drink, but worth every penny.
And a pound of cheese was a large (what I thought was a rather obvious) exaggeration, but this was found on google (in the Dirty Takeaway thread of this very forum) and it's the Elvis in all its calorific glory.
A burger is just a convenient way to eat minced meat. KISS

Funny you should say that, the other week I visited a good quality butchers that also had a counter where they would cook what you just bought as well as a few specials.
I was quite happy ordering some 'risky' dishes like this dry aged beef burger with cheese

Agree with this ^ but the only downer on the BK is it's much more variable, I can have a Big Mac pretty much anywhere and know what I'm getting, a BK whopper varies from the "much better than a big mac" to "what the f*ck?". Our local BK is hopeless.
Maccers can also be very variable. the one by Harringay Green Lanes station has such bad grease issues, the paper wrapping the burger is greasy on the outside. BK is also variable but I much prefer BK as a general rule. I think their 'specials' are always more interesting, McD's is engineered to be very bland so that little kids and people with no palate will enjoy it - Burger King aren't afraid to throw in the odd jalapeno, the 'flame grill' taste adds a dimension (probably just Liquid Smoke but it helps) etc etc. I'm a little bit gutted the only BKs in Exeter are the High Street (inconvenient for parking) and the motorway services (overpriced). We have far too many KFC outlets, most of which are rank and unhygenic.
so today is national burger day, most burger joints/restaurants doing 20% off with some sort of voucher. mainly in london i think

had a McD's Signature "spicy one" yesterday and it was distinctly "meh".
On Friday though, I visited the multi-award winning Beefy Boys in Hereford. Really good, better than Five Guys, although slightly more expensive but that did include Bacon Fries and a bottomless soft drink

Highly Recommended.

Five Guys pricing does take the piss, however they are bloody nice burgers.
My difficulty is in finding decent burgers that don't use those great big thick patties. The beauty of a thin one is it can be cooked quickly so that it's nice and dark and tasty on the outside yet still slightly pink, juicy and tender in the middle. Whereas the inch-thick lumps beloved of ste pub chains give you a choice of cooked to death on the outside or raw in the middle. Grim.
Other than Five Guys, I rate Almost Famous highly. And although it's the low end of the market, Burger King - if you get a freshly made burger rather than one that's been kept warm, they're pretty damn good. Infinitely better than the flavourless greasy toss that you get at Maccy's.

I agree... just order a variant (extra mustard, no onions, etc) or just ask for freshly made one. I'd always go BK over MaccyDs.BK is always better then McDs. Would much rather eat a freshly made whopper then a fresh big tasty as they're near enough the same price.
although nowadays I'm fine just eating McDs double cheese burgers. £1.49 versus £4.30 for a big tasty burger, which is a huge price gap. i just ask them for extra onions/mustard/pickles and they make it fresh.
There was a time when BK used to do really nice burgers for £1, one was called the rodeo burger and the other i forget the name. loved buying the latter.

Bk franchises in serious st, most just not making a bean, they are never busy. Some don't seem to open for breakfast despite advertising they do- work that out. Whopper still a good burger though very filling . although nowadays I'm fine just eating McDs double cheese burgers. £1.49 versus £4.30 for a big tasty burger, which is a huge price gap. i just ask them for extra onions/mustard/pickles and they make it fresh.
