I know it’s already been said but I’m not sure 5 Guys represents value. Second ever experience yesterday - 2 cheeseburgers, 1 regular fries and 2 soft drinks - £28.75! It was ok (bun was cold, meat acceptable and fries quite good). I just hope that the massive margin on £3.50 post-mix drinks subsidises the cost of the burger.

Maybe it’s the contrast of fast food concept at table service prices that jars.
i cant see how that cost so much, burgers are 6 quid? fries i assume 3ish? even with my D at A Level maths that's about 10 quiddish isn't it?

you do get loads of fries and unlimited drinks (although now only fruit flavors of coke are zero that's not worth it anymore)

i had it again on saturday, this time from colchester, back to my original opinion, the one from harlow was an exception, again tasteless burger, fries too well seasoned, nice hot dog though.

ive never had it not hot enough, but then only had takeout so suppose them wrapping in foil allows the burger heat to warm bun up.
Luck to get a D smile
2 x Cheeseburger @ £8.50 each = £17.00
1 x Regular fries @£4.75
2 x Soft drink @ £3.50 = £7.00
Total = £28.75

How do you get to a tenner??

Agree with the points about rents, franchise and fit-out costs - does that mean it isn’t a sustainable business if they have to charge 2 people 30 quid for fast food though?

woops tony was right...i meant 20 quiiddish!

i had never realized they were that much don't tend to look at the price tbh, but i order the cheaper 'little' ones as am 2 stone overweight (not wanting people to think im a powerfully built company director type, 15 stone at 6.4 is too much, also undue strain on my road bikes!)

8.75 for double bacon! proper rip iff compared to the quality you get from somewhere like bleecker for same price...also more than shake shack no?

I think we wished we’d gone for the smaller ones too. Not because of price, just because it was ‘too much’ food-wise. Fries portion was more than enough for two.

Bit of a tangent but related - how frequently do the burger aficionados indulge? Looking at the pictures of some of the monsters in the thread one of those would do me for a year! I reckon I’m around once a month - maybe a little more. Partly through head ruling heart on the nutrition front but mainly because one ‘dose’ seems to work for a long time - then the craving comes back! Anyone weekly or even daily?

One thing to remember/note with operations like 5G's. The costs to run a franchise in the UK are significant. In my opinion the only ones to make money are the franchisor i.e 5G USA. You have to buy everything from them. 1M quid for the kitchen, the food, the drink. It's all marketed up. Then you have to pay royalties in the order of 8% of revenue!. Located in better locations where rent/rates are very high. That right there is your net margin. Gone. I would almost guarantee 5G's UK makes losses and will continue to do so until they hit 20-30 stores and perhaps they can get better pricing from 5G inc. But look at the investment/return. It's poor (return) and the risks are high.
they must be close to 20-30 stores already, they seem to be popping up everywhere, at least in the South/East
I think they’ve 90 odd in the UK!

quite possibly. Over the last 3-4 years they have accumulated losses of 42M. That's a lot of burgers to sell in the future to recoup that!

I’d imagine it’s the same scam as Starbucks runs. Keep your international businesses running at loss by paying huge franchising fees and supply costs to a business set up in a tax haven.

Perhaps a dirty word in this thread, however I think they stand up for consideration at the price point. Signature Spicy, as it comes. £6.70 for a large meal.

You have to admit that looks a pretty decent effort for a fast food drive through.

I've had a few spicy signatures in my time. Unfortunately the burgers are always overcooked, gone hard, and quite cold. Not ideal especially for a relatively big thick patty. But still ok of you go with typical McDonald's level expectations

Been through Dublin airport a fair bit recently, have used the Garden Terrace restaurant a bit and finally thrown the towel in at the blatant bland microwave crap they serve, even for an airport it's bad. Fancied a burger and was amazed when BK served up something palatable, actually quite a decent whopper compared to recent mway service experiences, even better it was on expenses.

Anybody got any airport food tips? My experience is usually pretty bad, from Wetherspoons, Smiths and Costa etc.

Chimichurri 2.0 at Honest Burger in Bristol. I usually have a bacon cheeseburger wherever I go so it'd a fair comparison but thought I'd try this. Doubled up because I'm a greedy pig. Very tasty and nice and pink inside. Had to use a knife and fork to eat though. Rosemary chips were delicious too.

Cost was £12.50 for burger plus £3.50 for the double and £2.50 for a coke. Paper straws are st though.

Yep paper straws are st, metal "reusable" straws are st too (dodgy taste and probably harbouring all sorts of nasties after a few uses if not cleaned very well). Wish they would let us have the plastic straws back and just trust us to be responsible with them and use a few less than before. They're still selling coca cola in plastic bottles and I'm still seeing way more of them dumped in the streets than I've ever seen discarded straws, I guess straws were an easy target.

After the Rugby yesterday I went to Byron in Chelsea. I’ve never been to one so expected the worst.

I had a cheese and bacon burger with standard fries and a superb milkshake.

The party also had a chicken salad, three portions of very good chicken wings and courgette fries that were gifted as they arrived late.

Total bill ( for 4) was £41. One of the party whipped out there NHS card for a 25% discount so £28 paid.

Food was good, service friendly. I was impressed.

Shake Shack (Victoria) on Friday

Double cheeseburger with shallots (meister burger?), Vanilla shake, fries
£17, quite average quality I thought. Burger quite small and a bit greasy.

Despite this the place was packed, struggled to find seating. Really badly designed - menu is about 2 feet from the window so easier to read from outside. Half the seating is blocked / covered by pillars.

GBK much better and similar price, not sure why this chain is popular.

I'm not sure either, the Covent Garden one is always equally mobbed despite being overpriced and nothing special on the burger front. Maybe most of the people in there are American tourists afraid to try euro food.

I really liked Shake Shack when I was in the US in June. Went to the Cardiff one a couple of weeks ago and it wasn’t cheap but it was tasty and very similar to the US offering.
