Many years ago after a night out we would all pile into a kebab House and buy a burger and chips from there. they were fairly tasty if I recall correctly.
Does anybody still do this?
I'm sure someone still does.
HTH
Quality could be very variable though. I'd say the sweet spot for those type of establishments was up to 2006 ish. Good footfall from pubs, healthy margins = food that's to a decent standard (for the price point). Now it's almost impossible for a lot to make a living.
It's still possible if you differentiate yourself by providing consistent quality. And the type of establishments that cater predominantly to the Pub-kicking out time clientele don't tend to worry about that. However those that cater predominantly for the home delivery market do focus more on quality, especially with Just Eat being a bit like Tripadvisor for Takeaways.

Had a fabulous burger in a place called "Hamerica" in Milan a few days ago (needed something other than pasta and pizza for a change!). Better than any burger I've ever had in the UK, and up in my top five burgers of all time (none of which have been in the UK). Didn't look all that special but taste, flavour and size were all incredible. Was about 12 euros including fries, cheese and tons of bacon on it (both large complete rashers and heaps of chopped up crispy bacon bits). Finished with a small but perfectly chosen amount of thousand island sauce.

Great beer everywhere we ate in Milan as well. Even the cheap draught Poretti that they serve if you just ask for a generic Birra rather than choosing a particular brand goes superbly with all food. Hate the trend in the UK that if a burger place has beer it has to be some bks "craft" beer that invariably tastes rank.

A lot depends on the dimensions of the burger and what sides you have. Try and eat coleslaw with your fingers.
You can use "chip fingers" to pick up the coleslaw laugh

Is it a no no to say 'fresh cooked fries please'.

In McDonald's just ask for fries with no salt and they have to cook up a fresh batch. Then ask for a sachet of salt!

You used to be able to ask for fries with no salt. The whole fry station had to be wiped down and a new batch fried.

This was back in the 80's though when I was working there after school. They might have a salt free station these days.

KFC is just a massive let down these days. In the past, I would always choose them over the generic chicken shops but honestly, the generic ones are so much better.

Last time I took the kids I noticed very low salt if any. I wonder if they are doing that now because of the kids meals. It doesn't really work adding salt later from a sachet.

Not a proper burrito that's why. The price would be a giveaway. Barburitto is probably the best high street chain that does them, although chiquito's arent bad either.

Incorrect, that would be Chilangos or Poncho 8!

Back on topic, I had a very tasty Dead Hippie Burger last night at Meat Liquor supplemented by a plateful of cheesy fries and chicken gravy.

Oh, and some giant onion rings to dunk in the gravy.

Not my pic but it looked just like this. Highly recommended. lick
