I still don't get it... whenever I ask someone for Juice/orange juice they bring me damn squash , even in fine establishments they usually look at me like I'm weird and they bring me the God damn disgusting squash even I would never ask for such thing...
When someone offers me tea/coffee or juice in their house I say sure to the juice= but they bring me the squash thing... frown
I'm confused...

Seriously wtf? How do you call 100% pure orange fruit juice for example? squeezed from actual fruit not some junk you mix up with tap water..

So let me get this straight - it's happened to you on several occasions yet you still haven't modified your vocabulary to stop it happening again? I see where the problem might be.

If you nip down the shop the hint is on the carton - "fresh orange" as we call it.

It's called orange juice.

The people who are giving you squash instead are idiots.

Is it a regional dialect issue? It (was) "squash" when I was young in Yorkshire...

Squash is cordial - usually diluted by water. Juice is juice, If you ask for juice and get squash - say you don't want it.

That's what I thought - though can be confused by people giving kids watered down juice...

Juice to me is Coke, as in a can of juice. More commonly known in Glasgow as ginger.

As for what we call the real stuff? I don't think any of us are healthy enough to buy it.

We don't. Everybody knows there's a difference. They are either stupid or haven't any juice.

We haven't had squash in the house for years. Awful stuff - and that's the good brands.

+1

If you ask for juice or orange juice etc you should receive something resembling fresh orange juice.

To eliminate any confusion, I always ask for 'fresh orange' when ordering and that seems to always do the trick.

I'm a UK person; whenever I've asked for orange juice I get orange juice, which is what I expect, I have never received orange squash.

Whenever someone is round and I ask what they would like to drink and they respond with "what do you have?", if orange/canberry/tropical etc juice is one of the choices and they say "oh orange juice please", guess what they get and it certainly isn't squash.

Just ask for Vimto, it's what you want really and it's super healthy.

Squash is actually cordial and real fruit juice was a luxury starter when I was a lad, come round my house asking for fruit juice and I'm going to give you vimto and still fecking invoice you for it.

I have never come across this, squash is diluted with water and juice is in a carton. Some people through curve balls by calling it cordial, but I have not heard juice and squash mixed up.

I have also not heard coke being called juice either. Cleaning product yes, but not juice.

if you ask for juice you get squash, or sometimes GHB.

don't ask for squash juice, it's rank.

I suggest you ask for "macerated orange effluent"

You think you've got problems?

My children don't drink squash although they love juice. To keep things simple they generally ask for water, but this often results in squash. The adults serving them look confused when they repeat their request for water and don't drink the squash.

(The problem is compounded because squash is a diaretic, doubly effective when you don't normally drink it, and my children know that)

Fresh orange is fresh orange juice.
