Must Eat Places in Barcelona
Discussion
So after a recent, abrupt and unexpected end to a relationship I find myself with a flight to Girona and nowhere to go any longer.
Not to despair, I have sorted myself accommodation in Barcelona, a city which I have yet to visit but is right up there on my to do list.
Good food (and drink) will be high on my agenda, but as I'm going solo I'd say more social, casual, tapas, street food type places are preferred over top end restaurants where I fear I would look a massive oddball.
I am there a week, so plenty of time to sample the delights.

Las Ramblas will give you a good variety of tourist style places, reasonable food but tourist prices and not a huge choice. And, don't carry valuables, its much improved but still a hive of pickpockets.
If you want a morning and lunch out then head to La Boqueria, huge food market where you can eat and shop.
Good place for lunch also is the restaurant on the top floor of El Corte Inglés (the English shop). Book a table on the terrace and get a decent bottle of wine, spend the afternoon watching Barcelona below.
Head to El Born in the evening for tapas.

Should you happen to wind up "in company" - please go here:

With the wine flight, one of the best we have been to - antwhere.
Trying to find a reason to get back to Barcelona for the last two years, so we can go again.

I was there in June. We had lunch. I was wearing shorts. I was not the only one. The tasting menu with wines (and other drinks) is sublimely good.http://cincsentits.com/en/

Also Tapas 24 is a must. It's a Carlos Abelles (Ferran Adria acolyte) no-booking tapas place. Open late (of course).
Tapac 24 - order a bikini, and a mcfoie. Once you have had seconds (and you will want them) and more stuff, go back again another day, and order everything you missed.
Tickets (if you can get a reservation)
Can Cisa / Bar Brutal
Cal Pep (go early or wait in line for a considerable time).

When in La Boqueria, head for Pinotxo first, and El Quim another time.
Oh, and watch your wallet.

The only reason to be near Las Ramblas is La Boqueria. The rest of the vicinity is largely crap.Another vote for Tapas24 here, very good indeed. The big La Boquera market off the Ramblas mentioned above also very much worth a visit, but in general I would avoid anything on the Ramblas as an inevitable tourist trap.
Get the tourist sightseeing bus - full round trip is about a 2-hour ride, with some amazing views.

I've heard only good things, but it's a long way from Barcelona!https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1...
This was the best tapas we had - nice wines as well
Sausage meatballs and fennel was the best dish if I remember correctly

Another vote for El Born. Would steer away from Las Ramblas for anything other than a quick wander (and keep an eye on your belongings when you do)
If you do decide to go a bit fancy, Disfrutar is the best restaurant I have ever eaten in. Amazing food and if you get a seat at the bar its pretty relaxed and you won't look out of place as a singleton, plus you get to watch the army of chefs at work. It's Michelin star, but not stuffy and not over priced.

Los Caracoles is just off Las Ramblas and is one of my favourite restaurants in the world.

Brilliant!
Thanks for the responses, seems like I'm not going to go hungry!!!
I am a little aware of being on my own, not just feeling out of place but as mentioned being robbed etc.. I am pretty savvy though so hopefully be ok.
While I said more casual places, some of the restaurants mentioned do sound superb! I'm used to dining alone with working away, but generally in the kind of place you can just blend in and read a book.

Was pretty impressed with Viana (vianabcn.com) last time I was there..it's not far from Placa Reial
For more of a bar option, maybe BierCab on Carrer de Muntaner - great selection of beers, and a tapas/burger type menu. Found the place a few years back, and have returned a few times since. Very reasonable prices, but nicely done.
