Hi folks,

I love a haggis me. However I'm conscious the McSweens we get from the supermarket probably wouldn't do north of the border!

What should we be eating? Recommendations I can get my hands on easily please! wink

McSweens is popular up here, there’s plenty of producers near me. Where are you based? Are you looking to order online?

McSween's is the one of the best TBH.

I might not be able to get Lorne sausage now I'm down south, but at least you can pick up McSween's in the supermarkets down and some of the better butchers shops down here as well..

oh!

I'd assumed McSweens was just a market thing that bore little relation to the real thing. Like Ginsters or something...

Nah it’s fairly authentic, just google them. Fairly large site outside Edinburgh. They do black pudding now too.

McSween's haggis is probably (along with Simon Howie) the best supermarket brand of haggis you can buy.

If you want genuine haggis encased in an animal's stomach then a good Scottish butcher is where you need to go. I live in Berkshire but I get haggis (with other items) delivered from Scott Brothers of Dundee. Very good quality haggis (as is the rest of their ware) and you can order online here - https://www.scottbrothersbutchers.co.uk/shop-categ...

Some of these Scotch butchers look awesome - just a shame the postage doubles the cost of a small purchase... irked

www.pollockwilliamson.co.uk

Been buying haggis, scotch pies and steak pies from there for a few years, normally delivered about 3 day’s after order.

Really tasty stuff.

Not tried the CharlesMacleod black pudding, but 100% with you on the rest!!

I live local to Buchanans and without a doubt the best steak slice I've ever tried.

One of our local butchers in Coventry gets proper Scottish haggis delivered from a butcher north of the border. It is great.

Another also does Lorne sausage, although it is sold as "scotch slice". I've got this for dinner tonight and can't wait!

The best haggis I have ever had comes from a butchers in Castle Douglas called Hendersons. (01556 502654)

Every time we go near we have to bring loads back as everyone who has tried it wants us to bring them some. Last time I was up I found out that they have started to deliver so I guess it's not just us.

They also sell haggis slices which we cook on the barbeque like burgers although I recommend using a burger cage as they can fall apart. Or cut a pocket in a chicken breast and fill with half a haggis slice, wrap with bacon and bake in the oven.

Make a slight detour to Houstons in Dumfries and you'll find the best haggis in Scotland.

Chicken Balmoral. Serve with a whisky & cream sauce. Yum!

Not a fan of McSweens, I'm sure I'll be disproved in a reply, but every Scotsman I know have similar to views to me on it. For me, when I occasionally went to Edinburgh for work or had colleagues come down south, it was Crombies, but their online prices were always ridiculous.

I must admit, and some may question my taste as a result, I actually quite like Halls haggis, but it's gone from being common (or even the only one I could get) to elusive.
