Afternoon all,

Sorry, I know we've all got better things to do, late on a Friday afternoon, but I wonder if anyone could recommend a mobile Dent & Paint chip repairer? I've no preference over a national chain, or local business, but If it helps, I'm in Northamptonshire, (Wellingborough/Kettering).

Details - Mrs Fang's car is being swapped & there's a penny sized dent & chip on the bonnet, which I'd rather get sorted before it's picked up, than have VW/BCA do it & induce a heart attack.

Any advice gratefully received - have a good weekend.
Thanks!

If the dent AND chip are that size it's a bodyshop & a complete bonnet respray.

If it's a small dent with just a little chip 1 or 2mm as the impac point then a PDR tech MIGHT be able to get the dent out & you then need to put a dot of paint into the chip.
I can recommend Dent Technique in Leicester for PDR but that might be a bit far for you.

Unfortunately bonnets & roofs aren't suitable areas for SMART repairs as the edge of the repair will be very visible so you need to go to the edges & that's a big area not suitable for doing outside.

Check the BVLRA guideline, that might be fine as wear and tear.

VW don’t normally inspect and collect on the same day. It might be worth getting a quote from the inspection guy. We just had a Passat inspected on Friday and the pricelist he showed us was a lot cheaper than going elsewhere.

Whizz it into these guys. Very good. Would expect them to do a bonnet in one day.

Example of spot repair in middle of a bonnet on a yellow e type.

To be fair it's not a job I would take on... it can be done though.

I’m in Northampton. I’ve got a PDR guy coming to me tomorrow to hopefully massage a bigger than average parking ding of a Fiesta. I’ll let you know how we get on.

I'd like to actually see that one in the metal, youtube pics aren't going to give you a good enough view & a view from different angles is likely to give the game away.
Whilst I've got away with it on solid white I haven't on any other colour I've tried especially dark ones where the clear edge is very noticeable.

Thanks jimbo893 - would be interested to hear back. As usual my timing is impeccable - more than a dozen cars in our village were keyed on Saturday night, (including my nephew's 1 month old first new car & my BiL's RangeRover) so our local guy is booked up for the next few days...!

Yep, reported, so there's a crime number for insurers. One business has supplied cctv footage, which is now up on Facebook (& passed to the local police). Other businesses are being approached, so we'll see what happens. Very unpleasant.

Very unpleasant and infuriating. Let’s hope the CCTV comes up with something.

The dent guy came over today. He’s stated that he needs to drill from the back side of the wheel arch to get his tools in (ooo errr). He’s going to do it at a unit he uses to guarantee shelter from the weather. Friday is the day; I’ll let you know how we get on.

In my experience VWFS or BCA will charge you far less for that sort of damage than you'll pay privately to sort, so I'd just leave it.

Appreciate the comment, but I'll take the risk on the basis that the VW salesman advised us not to use VW/BCA because they would be more expensive than a local bodyshop/Chipsaway-type job. Don't think he'd have a personal or corporate interest saying that. I'll let you know what the cost is - happy to be proved wrong, but thanks for your contribution anyway.

The dent was pulled out today. Stirling job, you really wouldn’t know it was ever there. Absolutely no remnants of the panel being flexed at all. Really happy with the job. He also polished the slight scratch out that was caused at the time of the dent.

Update: job done by RVR, as suggested by stewies_minion above. Not cheap, but immaculate & very quick. As well as the bonnet dent & some scratches on the front valance/radiator panel, they gave the whole body a thorough clean, polish & wax, removing some glue remnants from a pair of door protectors that fell off a year ago. It looks brand new. Had the car inspected yesterday by BCA (it goes back tomorrow) & they passed it as fault free. V pleased - thanks for the recommendations all. CF
