I am trying to establish why some 718's have 3 radiators and some have 2 I have looked at all combinations of S non S PDK and Manual and have failed to identify a definitive explanation. At local OPC neither sales nor Service personnel could explain !!

Where is this "third" radiator?

If fitted, below the front number plate.

From the tech specs both models have 3 radiators (two low-temperature air-water radiators and a water intercooler). There isnt a radiator below the number plate as this is either blanked off or has the ACC fitted.

Sorry to contradict you Ted but I have seen several 718's with a centrally mounted front radiator. They certainly did not look like ACC "radiators" which are fitted in front of the side radiators. The mystery remains !

Ermm ACC is the active cruise which has the radar fitted in the gap/grille space below the number plate? Maybe an S without ACC has a central radiator in place?

I doubt they'd leave a functional rad out just because you specify ACC.

Could the OP post photos of 718s with the central rad so it could be identified?

Do any 981 models have a central rad at the front? Might help to explain why some 718s do and some don't, if that IS the case.

For 986/987 you had a central third rad if you had an S or a Tip.

From a quick Google session:

981 GTS - all variants had third radiator
981 S with PDK - third radiator fitted to warm country markets e.g. middle east
981 S with manual gearbox - no third radiator
981 base - all variants had no third radiator

I must say i have never seen a centrally mounted open grille on a 718 or an S , its just a blanking plate

Looks like the GTS may have one?

I think you may be right as the ACC sits in the middle of this gap?
This clearly shows a radiator.

Silly me !! I mis read ACC as AC ! I Do not have any pics of the 718's I have seen with third radiator but a couple of them had the sport design optinal front bumper - not that should have made any difference to cooling requirements I would have thought. Still a mystery then !

Look at the viper green and Carmine red 718 Boxster S at OPC Portsmouth. Now they look like they both have an additional central rad. The mystery continues........

The third radiator is fitted as standard when the car is built for a “hot climate” but can also be retrofitted if you use the car on a track. It’s been available since the 987 and you can buy the upgrade kits from the likes of Suncoast.

The green car at Portsmouth is pre reg and the red car is a demo. So why would they spec the ‘track’ rad and not list it?

It's not an option, it would be a retrofit.

I'm guessing the two showroom cars are PDK "S" models and maybe Porsche are doing what they did with the 981 models?

As far as I know the third rad standard on PDK and then fitted on manual cars in hot climates as I said?

Not standard on PDK and/or S cars and I know Portsmouth is the south coast but not really what I would call a walm climate ;-) Surely someone knows something on this.......

My 987S had one and I was told by the OPC that it was because it was PDK otherwise only in warm climate. Can’t see why that would be BS or why it would change on the later cars.
