My petrol leaf blower is a bit dead. Whilst i could mess about and probably get it going for a while, thoughts have turned to replacing it.

So, it seems that battery powered ones are now available. Question is, are they any use?

Not the budget end, but something like this http://www.thegreenreaper.co.uk/ego-power-plus-lb4...

Has anyone got any experience of these or similar?

Got a Ryobi 3kw from B&Q today for £74 albeit mains run. 6m lead supply but got a 25m extension lead for another £25. Used it on mid setting and did more then enough collecting and mulching. Vac function was I wanted it for.

Not sure on battery ones but the lead didn’t bother me that much.

Bought one of these from eBay for £70. Brilliant for vacuum. I use a stihl for blowing the leaves

This will be a fraction of the price, cheaper to run, quieter, far less hassle and won't end up in landfill in 3 years time. Plus you'll get fitter...

I just bought an AWESOME bit of kit, literally last weekend - a Makita BHX2501.
It's about the same price as a decent battery blower, but.... wait for it.... 4-stroke petrol!

It's quiet, blows a gale and starts first pull every time.
And its £100 cheaper than its Honda equivalent.

Batteries are for girls.

Only a 2ah battery. The big power tool manufacturers are putting out 9ah batteries now. Look at the Ah's as a fuel tank. The larger the number, the longer it'll go on for.

I have a dewalt one, as I have quite a few batteries.
probably not as good as the petrol ones but for a normal domestic garden its fine, no good if you have a stately home though.

Batteries for very high power handheld devices I think are still a way off. I would strongly check all the specs before going down the battery route.

Yes but that's 2Ah at 56v, which is the equivalent total energy as 6.2Ah at 18v...
Higher voltage also means lower losses in the system and higher efficiency at the (brushless) motor.

Petrol's better though, FAR FAR superior energy density.

Hmmm, so no one has a battery one. Sounds like im better off with another Petrol one.

Its not a "stately home" but the gardens rather bigger than a domestic one, at least in terms of tree count frown

The leaves will fall off the trees naturally, autumn usually, you don't have to blow them off. HTH.

I've got about 1/2 acre with a lot of trees, ended up filling approx. 20 x 150ltr bags last year by rake and hand, this year I bought the Worx 505E its electric cable (length 12m) and I have it on a 60m extension lead, it also cuts the leafs up 16 to 1, its ok does the job but probably a bit slower than petrol one, I would of gone petrol but didn't want the hassle of swapping the blower and vac around, the Worx 505 its just a flick of switch, from what I have read and seen the Worx 505E is probably the best electric one you going to get, its in Argos £79 but was £69 a few weeks back.

I bought one of each of these:

Leaf Blower:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-DUB182Z-Cordless-L...

Battery:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-BL1850-Li-ion-Batt...

Charger:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-DC18RC-14-4-Batter...

£165 is more than enough for these but they work for my, rather niche, needs which are drying the car without pissing off the neighbours too much (live in London - neighbours are rather closer than other places).

If I needed an actual leaf blower for blowing leaves and stuff, I would buy the most powerful 2 or 4 stroke one I could.

I’ve been thinking of a battery powered leaf blower for cooling the top mount inter cooler on my mini between sprint and hill climb runs. Watching this thread with interest.

My wife bought a Bosch cordless battery leaf blower and it's excellent. Not sure what model it is but it works for our garden of about 1 acre with lots of trees.

You will find that a lot of f1 teams use battery powered leaf blowers for cooling the brakes on the cars when they return to the pits. It should work well.

But they don’t have to run for extended time and money is no object in terms of replacing batteries .

I bought one of these recently:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-DUB362Z-Brushless-...

About as good as you can get, battery wise, running 2x 5.0 AH Lithium batteries.

However I used it once and sent it back, a good amount of blowing power, but for my needs the batteries were going too quickly, they only lasted around 10 minutes on full power which wasn't enough to complete the job.
