Dealer supplied MOT, am I right be to worried?
Discussion
Hi, earlier on this week I put a deposit down on a little shed money runaround from a dealer and it was to come with 12 months MOT
Naturally they'll supply their own MOT which is already potentially concerning.
Now it's late on Friday, they close Saturday although I'm due to pick it up tomorrow out of hours and as yet according to the Gov website, it currently still has no MOT.
I'm thinking i'm going to get a dodgy MOT because if they do it tomorrow then they needed a part, they would really struggle to get a part delivered on a Saturday.
If I do get one then I know how to deal with it so I'm not worried about that part.
Am I just being paranoid or does this sound iffy?

Paranoid. Why would they pay someone else to do the MOT when they can do it themselves. They’ll also wait until the last minute in case you pull out because of the car then sits there for a month and they like to sell with 12 months MOT they’d have to do it again.
They probably pretty much know it’ll pass already.

Terrifying! Naturally they'll supply their own MOT which is already potentially concerning.

An MOT from the company selling a low value car is more than likely little more than a paperwork exercise. With that type of car you need to be able to assess it yourself. If you really are an experienced bangernomicist this will either be something that you are used to and capable of or you've been stunningly lucky.

Definitely paranoid you sound like exactly the sort of buyer who should NOT be buying cheap runners if you think like that.
I live off bangernomics, I've lost count of the cars I've owned, but I do expect 12 months MOT to be legitThis subject of dodgy MOT's come up quite often on PH, it's massively exaggerated
I run a fleet of older cars including a few bangers and I know quite a few MOT testers, for the person who is testing the car, they are effectively opening themselves up to loss of livelihood by passing something that should be a fail (sure enough some wont care but for most this is a massive risk to losing their income and its not worth it for the risk).

The Gov website lags behind the actual MOT date. Just make sure you have the MOT when you pick it up.
I have been sat in the garage refreshing the MOT site and the result has been online before the guy has come out the workshop.MoT was one of the first of the day and the result was visible on .gov around 10am.
It's a banger, MOT provided by the very same dodgy back street garage selling this pristine example of motoring excellence (on a saturday when they're closed).
What type of MOT do you think you're going get LOL.
btw I can usually get anything that will cause a typical MOT failure on a saturday (and even sunday morning) in most cases but that won't worry you because, of course, yours is not going to fail.

Or you get a car with zero advisories like my MINI had, which proceeded to need a new radiator, water pump and head gasket within the space of two months...They probably pretty much know it’ll pass already.
