Looking for the grippiest tyres possible for my supercharged Monaro. Off the line grip is more important than wear as I don’t do many miles and it likes to light up the back tyres.

Got Continental SportContact 5p on at the moment and they’ve been pretty good.

Now thinking of Continental SportContact 6 or
Michelin Pilot sport 4s.

Any opinions or other suggestions?

Have you looked online for tyre reviews?

Yes, that’s how I narrowed it down to those two. Most reviews are from drivers of hot hatches though. Not heavy, rwd cars with more power than grip. Would value first hand experience.

Road legal drag radials would be good!

The grippiest tyre on a hot hatch is likely to be the grippiest tyre for any car.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S should do the job.

I have the regular PS4 tyres and they are awesome, every bit as good as the old Pilot SuperSport. PS4S should be amazing!

What sort of conditions do you intend to run it in?

Toyo R888R, Dunlop Direzza DZ03G, Nankang AR-1 or Extreme VR2 for ultimate dry weather traction.

Mostly dry use as I only drive it in the wet by mistake.

I run PS4S on the 7 series when on summer tyres, 285/35/20 - OK, it’s a heavy old Hector, but it’s still 440+ hp & torque (can’t remember exact off top of my head-getting old!)

I appreciate it’s not beastly wink but I rarely get a chirp from them, even on enthusiastic driving, you have to deliberately try to get wheelspin in the dry.

By contrast, it’ll wheelspin at the top of 3rd (105mph) in the wet on the 245/50/18 winter tyres (Alpin P4S).

I’d recommend based on my personal experience.

I’ve just had PS4s fitted to my F-Type R - staggeringly good.

I ran Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2s on the rear of my last E Class.

A considerable improvement over the previously fitted Ultrac Vorti and Continental. It was still a bit skittish in the wet but really put the traction down in dry conditions. 728bhp with over 790 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels.

I used the cheapest I could find on my VE GTS, which last time round were "Durons".

Why spend a lot? They were going to get turned into smoke anyway.

I had a set of Falkens on it for a about 6m before replacing with Contis. Falkens were terrifying in the wet and not something I want to repeat.

If your only using the car in good conditions I'd go for Cup 2's. Not cheap but a great dry weather road / track tyre

I went from 5p to ps4s huge amount of additional grip at the rear.

But I would say in the summer psc2 would be even better once up to temp.

Surely this?! I love my PS4s. Exceptional grip compared to the Dunlop Maxx that are the OEM tyres. But if you want the best dry grip, then these tyres would be best suited?

No one mentioned AD08R yet? Great road tyre. I opted for them over PS4s on the M3.

Will wear out quicker than PS4s (300 tw vs 180), but initial cold grip is the best I've had on the road.

Wouldn't recommend a 'proper' road legal semi slick for the traffic light GP.

+1 on the AD08-R, they are fantastic for dry road use.
