Vietnam tips/places to see
Discussion
Hi gents, Vietnam in June with a couple of the lads. Been to Thailand for past 2 years and fancied something different. Any places to see/things to do in particular?
We like a beer and also like to chill out so any suggestions really would be great!
We're going for just 2 weeks and are going to HCMC, Danang, Hanoi and Ha Long.
TIA

you pretty much have it covered. Make sure you go on a 2 night ha long bay cruise, they get further out so theres less other boats around. I went with Au Co who were pretty amazing. Booked last minute and negotiated pretty hard.
hoi an is nice, quite mellow, and I quite liked hanoi, theres a little beer street there, but lots of street corners have homebrew stuff on tap for about 20p a half pint which is pretty drinkable.

Vietnam is completely the opposite from Thailand.
Excessive drinking is really quite frowned upon in Vietnam. HCMC is the most party town there but is not a patch on Bangers / Jakarta / Manila.
Hoi An is very mellow.
Da Nang is pretty chilled. Great place if you want to buy marble
Hà Noi is pretty quiet, being a government town. It’s changed a lot in the 20 years that I’ve been travelling there for work and pleasure but is still quite traditional. There’s a good bar at the cross of Gia Ngu and Hang Be
Hà Noi Opera House in the Hoan Kiem district is worth going to - there are some great performances there. There are also some good, if rather expensive, bars and restaurants round the area (they are not very Vietnamese, though).
It’s worth taking a couple of days in Ha Long city and Ha Long bay
Hue is good for a day. It rains the whole time and there are loads of land mines still there
Cu Chi tunnels are a fantastic day out from HCMC
Uber is super cheap over there. The car from Noi Bai airport to Hoan Kiem in Hanoi is about $8 for an hour’s ride
There’s a knack to crossing the road in the big cities. It’s worth figuring it out quickly

And what are ya meaning with the 2 day tour? You're suggesting 3 day/2night tour? hoi an is nice, quite mellow, and I quite liked hanoi, theres a little beer street there, but lots of street corners have homebrew stuff on tap for about 20p a half pint which is pretty drinkable.
Get to Halong bay around mid afternoon. Canoe about, a swim, then dinner on your boat, over night then more poncing about and back the following afternoon. Its quite a drive from Hanoi.
Bia Hoi is Beer, mainly homebrewed cheap as chips and not bad. Sold mainly at the northern end of Hoan kiem lake around Hang bac.
We stayed in a nice hotel by the Cathedral. Overnight train to Dong Hoi for the caves, then onto to Hue.
