Is it an urban legend or true that if you have a session on alcohol free beer you still get a hangover?

Some of the very cheap supermarket own 'value' brand beers are in the 2% range. (I assume there is a lower tax band that allows them to be so cheap).

I had some agreeable Lidl Radler last week @ 2.5% for 59p a large can, but that seems to have been a weekly special rather than a regular line.
I know Carling reduced their tax bill by £50m by dropping their lager from 4% to 3.7%.

I read a pint of 4% beer is 44p in tax which is a lot, really. Spirits is about £10/litre tax which is a bit of a surprise. The cheap stuff must be real gut rot. Gave up spirits years ago

By far my favourite one, actually tastes like a decent beer, and can't tell it is alcohol free.

I’ve loved Innis & Gunn’s oak aged beer so tried their alcohol free offering, took me a few mouthfuls to get into it, as it is different but it became more than acceptable quite quickly

Local one to me, Diekirch 0.0%
Tastes exactly like it's "full fat" 4.8% version!

Give these a go: https://www.bigdropbrew.com/

The Lager, Pale and Stout are pretty good. No de-alcoholisation either, just brewed to a really low abv.

I'm another beer blender. I know it sounds like heresy but with Lager I think it's fine. 50/50 mix of non alcoholic with alcoholic lager, tastes good ( far better than non alcoholic alone ) but cuts my units in half.

To reply to Trucko...yes it is true of a low alcohol beer that has had some alcohol removed. The remaining small% is the stuff that gives the hangover, called Esters.
The old Barbican was a classic example of this.

Since quitting alcohol last year I've made it my mission to seek out the best non alcoholic beers. None of the widely avaliable ones really do it for me, Brewdog Nanny State is ok but too hoppy for my liking.

Big Drop Brewing Co and the Danish Mikkeller do the best ones I have tried, I'd definitely turn to these two breweries first.

I also really liked naked by BRLO, one I picked up in Berlin.

Any recommendations for tasty non-alcoholic beer? Have used Brewdog for a while now but looking an alternative. Prefer Pale Ales but nice hoppy lager okay too. Thanks
WHY ?

Why do you want to drink on alcoholic beer in the first place? Rather than all those other nice drinks that are natural and taste better and cost a lot less and are better for you?

Brewdog stuff tastes of chemicals.
Bavaria is too sweet.
Becks blue is ok, but then why spend the money on that when you can get something not BEER more tasty for cheaper?

As my good friend said to me

"All the calories, none of the fun"

wink

Make it your mission to have better tasting stuff for cheaper without it having to say "non alcoholic" on the label for £££££

Just to be clear. A lot of them have gone. Maybe your friend should check his data.

Tried a few while mrs was pregnant.

Best were Estrella Galicia 0,0, Heineken 0, and Bud prohibition brew for easy drinking. All better ice cold.

I’m an ale fan but found the St. Peter’s unbearable even with lemonade. Bavaria and becks had a bad aftertaste. Nanny state was good too but seem to recall having a bit more alcohol than the above.

It is 0.5%.
